Olweus Program

Elementary Weekly

Who
Olweus is a bullying prevention program designed to improve relationships and increase
safety within the district. Each week the counselor/social worker sends out an
informational video regarding bullying or a topic related to school safety. Each teacher
facilitates discussions related to the videos utilizing guided discussion questions.
Discussions regarding cyber-bullying and inappropriate use of social media will continue
to be implemented throughout the year with the support of the police liaison officer.
The elementary schools hold weekly meetings. The meeting focus on reviewing the

Lockdowns/Intruder

Staff and students have been introduced to the new concept regarding school intruders:
run, hide and fight, rather than just hide. Staff were shown a video demonstrating an
intruder situation which focused on participants acting upon the run, hide, and fight
concept. During the lockdown drill, each individual teacher held a discussion regarding
the lockdown procedures.
Targeted services was implemented consistently after school on Tuesday and Thursdays
for students in grades k-8. The programs involves a safe environment for students to
receive homework assistance and/or specific help in the areas of reading and/or math.
Students are referred to the program by classroom teachers. Parents are informed of this
program by mailings and direct phone calls.

The PBIS Program is running strong at the 7-12th grade level. Cougar pride slips are
given out to kids for positive behavior and are also entered in the online grading program
making them visible for parents. Weekly drawings occur for the cougar pride tickets, as
well as quarterly PBIS Assemblys for all students and staff. PBIS has recently added a
non-teaching staff and student from each grade to the committee to assist with continuing
to build a positive environment within the district.
A police liaison officer has been added full time to the district for the 2015-2016 school
