RESOLUTION # 99-10 RESOLUTION OF THE CITY OF WEST MIAMI, FLORIDA URGING THE U.S. ATTORNEY GENERAL JANET RENO AND THE COMMISSIONER OF THE U.S. IMMIGRATION AND NATURALIZATION SERVICE DORIS MEISSNER TO SPEEDILY, EFFICIENTLY PROCESS AND RESOLVE AL NACARA AND HPIRA APPLICATION’ S SUBMITTED BY CUBAN, NICARAGUAN AND HAITIAN NATIONALS, IN THE INTEREST OF COMPASSION, DUE PROCESS AND FUNDAMENTAL FAIRNESS, Whereas, The U.S. Immigration and Naturalization Service has failed to expeditiously resolve pending applications, creating a huge backlog of pending applications, and Whereas, bureaucratic delays have produced waves of anxiety, insecurity and fear in our community, especially for the applicants who suffered from the uncertainly of not knowing whether they can be reunited as a family in the United States, and Whereas, quick resolution and approval of the applications would further the goals of Nicaraguan adjustments and Central American Relief Act. (NACARA) and Haitian Refugee Immigration Fairness Act. (HFIRA) which are due to expire on April, 2000. NOW THEREFOR BE IT RESOLVED BY THE MAYOR AND CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF WEST MIAMI THAT: Sect.1 The Mayor and City Commission of the City of West Miami, Florida strongly urge the United States Attorney General, Janet Reno and the Commissioner of the U.S. Immigration and Naturalization Service, Doria Melssner, to speedily efficiently and fairly process and resolve all NACARA and HPIRA applications submitted by Cuban, Nicaraguan and Haitian Nationals, in the interest of compassion , due process and fundamental fairness Passed and Adopted this 14 day of guly 1998- |44Q Me.
