min

Greeting - T greets students and presents

the days focus (Passing / Setting up your
teammates). S review the bump and set
technique. T goes over the goal of a
perfect possession = bump, set, hit over.
Also, T asks the students
What part of the body makes contact with
the ball on a bump (forearms, arms
straight, use your legs)
How do we communicate when the ball is
coming at us (I got it, Me)
You have 8 teammates, if you are running
for a ball, you are likely running to a
teammates path.COMMUNICATE!
If I bump to a teammate, what shot should
I set him/her up to hit? (Set, look to skim

the top of their head)

stay apart and focus on separate groups
while both roaming the area.

give general feedback when appropriate

gym and put the volleyballs away. T
comments on the use of proper technique
on the bump and set. T encourages S to
make appropriate adjustments in game
play.

S get into their teams and find a court. T

give each court a ball and have them start
a game. T emphasizes good passing and
communication. Each T focuses on a
specific court and gives feedback to that
court. S are invited to communicate with
teammates during and after points. S are
looking to create as many perfect
possessions as possible. S tally on a note
card each time they perform a perfect
possession (3 hits = bump, set, hit over).
Game is timed for 6 minutes. After 6
minutes, the captains run over to board to

Teams have 1 min to rotate and start the
next game. 3 games will be played.

court. The teams tally their perfect
possessions. 1 player is responsible for
the card.
Extension Up/Down: Up - 3 hits before
advancing ball over the net each
possession. Down - Take 1 step in when
serving.
Teacher Positioning: T has back to wall and
scans the room. Ts watch separate

Volleyball Rules for P.E. Tournament

1.

Always the say the score before serving your score then the opponents score.

2.

Points may only be scored when you are serving

3.

The server must be behind the line and may use an overhand or underhand

serve. The ball may NOT hit anything on the serve. The ball MAY hit the net during
play.
4.

Any obstacle over the court is out of bounds. If the ball hits the standards holding

the net it is out of play.

5.

If the ball lands on any part of the boundary line it is in.

6.

The ball must be hit a minimum of 2 times and may be hit up to three (3) times by

one team before going over the net. We encourage BUMP-SET. One person may NOT
hit the ball twice in a row but may it again if someone else has hit it in between. The
ball MAY be played out of bounds as long as it passes over the net between the poles. If
two (2) people hit the ball at the exact same time it counts as one hit and wither play
MAY play it again on the next hit. Any player involved in a block may it again as the
first of that teams three (3) hits allowed (A block is not considered a hit!).

7.

NO player is allowed to touch the net at any time. No player may cross the center

line under the net at any time.

8.

Using any part of the body ABOVE AND INCLUDING THE WAIST is considered a

legal hit. NO KICKING the ball!

9.

Any team that is NOT rotating properly will forfeit the game.

10.

If the ball is touched before it hits the ground it is in play.

11.

Volleyball was invented in 1895 by William G. Morgan at the YMCA in Holyoke,

Mass.
12.

There are six (6) people on a legal volleyball team. In our tournament, a

maximum of nine players are allowed on the court at one time. Any team with more
than nine players should rotate substitute players as part of the rotation.
13.

Teams rotate in a Z-pattern

14.

Games end on the whistle. Any point currently being played when the whistle

blows is null and void. The game reverts back to the score of the game when that point
was being served.
15.

In the event of a tie, the captains will rock/paper/scissor for serve. Each team gets

one chance to win the game on their serve. If a game reaches a third sudden-victory
serve, whoever wins that point wins the game.
5 min games let them know when theres 1 min left
