Solving Simultaneous Equations Using the TI-89

By David Kassebaum, MET Department

To demonstrate the solution of matrices using the TI-89 Titanium we will solve the following
equations.

3x + 4y = 1 Note: The solution is: x = 0.714 and y = -0.286

2x – 2y = 2

This set of equations can be solved using the simultaneous equations solver. First we need to go
to the simultaneous equations solver in the apps menu as shown.

Press Enter and select New.

Because this is problem involves two equations with two unknowns we need to enter this
information in the screen shown.

After pressing enter we need to enter the equations as shown.

Then press F5 to solve.
