In order to people communicate with others properly; one must
know that writing skills are always essential. Being able to transmit
your thoughts nonverbally is one of the best ways to communicate
with people around and far away from you. Nowadays writing is used
mostly on all duties of your everyday life; either because technology
now demands to everything be written rather than spoken or just
because in most places it is seen as formal to all things be written. In
schools, work, family and neighborhoods, it is highly necessary to know
how to communicate by writing because makes things effective and
easy.
School is the place that has a higher demand of writing skills
than any other. Through all your academic life, you will be facing

writing assignments that consist of good grammar, formal language,

and knowledge of every kind of format such as MLA, APA and Chicago.
School is always giving you assignments of writing in order for them to
know that you understand a topic, that you did learn it, practice, and
for you to let you know that writing will make things easier once you
know how to write properly. For instance, when a teacher assigns you a
reading, he will only know that you did understand it if you know how
to write about it and get all the information you could to get a good
grade in it. Even if you did not read every single page of the book, he
will know that you understand it because you are forced to make
further research to write about the topic. Since technology is
increasing, communication with teachers and/or students will be barely
verbal; most of the time will be by via e-mail of text. If you know how
to express your ideas by writing, you will be able to communicate
successfully anything that you desire to say.
In work is also highly demanded to know how to write properly. I
work as a laboratory assistant on The University of Texas at El Paso
where I constantly communicate with my boss, my supervisor,
coworkers and faculty staff by writing notes, lists, emails and letter,
where I can not make mistakes because it will be messing with
important people in my job. To join my work I was require to submit a
written resume, a cover letter and be communicating with by boss by
e-mail. These duties will always require knowing how to write properly

and with excellent grammar. For example, when I first applied to this
job, I was requiring a cover letter saying why I should get hired for this
position. Imagine if I write this cover letter with informal writing just as
u know I just wanna work 4 u bc it will give me knowledge and
money, noam saying? . This will tremendously impact the person
reading it and instantly he or she will ignore my letter. I had to be
careful with every word I wrote and be sure to write things as much
formal as I can. Professionalism consists of formal writing skills,
excellent grammar and paragraph structure, nothing more.
In the other hand, with my family the communication gets less
formal but respectful just as in school and work. We write to this
community when you want to express love, a celebration or a holiday.
To siblings you can write as whatever you want because they are in the
same level than you, neither your sibling or you will get upset if you
write something wrong or express ideas informally. However, writing to
your parents will require more respectfulness and dedication, even if
the reason why you are writing is simple and pointless, you will always
need to show respect. For example, when it comes to Christmas gifts,
you give a present with a letter to each one of your family members.
Despite the fact that everyone knows each other since birth, you will
no write to your father the same funny things you write to your sister
or brother. Language does change depending in the age and the
relationship you have with each member.

In your neighborhood occurs something similar but not the same

as with your family. The communication is relaxed but you will need to
show respect even if you do not see it necessary. I used to live in
Mexico a couple of years ago in a beautiful and passive neighborhood. I
knew how to treat all people next door because I know them since I
was a little kid, and with writing them a letter that respect did not
change. For instance, my neighborhood tended to have community
meetings, to see how is the neighborhood going and what things we
can do in order to maintain it clean and organized. Days before the
meeting we used to send letters to the person in charge of the
neighborhood, saying him advices or complains to talk in the meeting
that day. I remember that we as a family wrote the letters as a team,
my parents always wrote them as formal as they can in order to show
respect but also cooperation, letting them know we care about the
neighborhood. That letter would not be as formal as writing it to your
boss because they have not the same authority as your boss or your
professors, but it was always important to try to write it as respectful
as we can to later not be leading with problems with others.
Nowadays it is essential to have excellent writing skills in order
to express your ideas clearly to everyone. Knowing your audience will
be the key to knowing how to write it, the format to use and the
language to express. Writing will be used everywhere we go, that is

why is crucial for one to learn how to write properly and improve each
day that skills.
