TheMexicanwomensstatusinsocietyalteredduringtheMexicanRevolution.
Before the revolution, women wereexpectedtosimplybeanextensionoftheir
husbands: a shadow almost. Women often took ituponthemselvestoperform
the tasks of cooking, cleaning, raising the children, and other stereotypical
motherlyresponsibilities.
An effect of the Mexican Revolution was that as more women began to join the war,
menbegantodevelopmorerespectfortheMexicanwomen.
Mostly notably, the efforts of the Soldaderas and Intellectuals contributed
greatly as they not only helped frame the Mexican Revolutionbutalsocaused
theMexicanmentobemoreopenmindedofwomensrightsinsociety.

AftertheRevolutioncontractedartiststodoapaintingaboutthelifeofthemexican
people.Thegovernmentcommissionsgaveeachartistcompletefreedomof
interpretation.Itcouldbesaidtheyweretryingtohelpimprovetheculturalstruggle.
ThisledtotheMuralistmovementleadbyDiegoRivera,JosOrozcoand
DavidSiqueiros,whowerecommissionedtopaintrevolutionaryfrescoson
thewallsofministriesandpublicbuildingsdepictingrevolutionaryand
indigenousthemesorimagesofthesocialandpoliticalsituationof
postrevolutionaryMexico
Aneffectoftherevolutionwasthatasartistswereinspiredbytherevolution,they
rejectedMexicanrealism(seenasareflectionofpositivismunderDiaz)andanyother
formofartwhichtheyfelttobeultraintellectual.
Inanattempttomakeartcommunalpropertyandaccessibletothepublicthey
changedthecanvasformuralspaintedonthewallsofMexicosbuildings.

suchwereevendrawnbackfromtheindigenoustimes.Themethodofdrawingmusic
backfromtherootsofMexicowasusedtoimprovenationalism.
