Senior Project Proposal
For my senior project, I am going to have an Autism Awareness Night. I plan to
have the event be an hour long in the MPR. My mother works with autistic children and
therefore I can learn a lot from her and have guest speakers from her work come to
raise awareness of the disorder - what its like to have it, what its like when a relative
has it, and what to do about it. There have been many cases in which children with
severe autism have made breakthroughs which fascinated me and lead to me research
more on the disorder as well as design my senior project around it. I eventually came
up with having an awareness night after constantly hearing the word retarded being
used as an insult. The learning curve of this project will be event planning, which
although Ive done in leadership has never been with this kind of motivation or
reasoning, as well as bring more awareness to people.
