Leadership Styles

Adaptive learning is used in many organizations, to an extent. I would say
schools use adaptive learning/leadership every second of the day, hospitals
might come next in line, and government might be next. I wish insurance
companies had adaptive leadership, then our feelings would be involved not just
our money when something happens.
Adaptive learning takes data and mixes it with the well being of who ever it
concerns. If a judgment call must be made, for example in a hospital, then
everything is considered, not just how much a surgery will cost and if insurance
will cover it or not. Adaptive leadership takes place when collaboration happens
frequently and not one person has to be the boss. Of course being the boss or
leader must happen but this type of leader will want the help and feedback of
others.
I often rely on adaptive leadership in my classroom in order to make each
class work well for the students who are in it. Not every kid is the same and not
every relationship is the same. Therefore, I must take every bit of information I
can to make my classes flow nicely. One major adaptive decision I make in my
classroom in a seating chart. Sometimes I will have a class where all of the
students work well with each other and a seating chart doesnt need to be made.
In other classes it is hard to separate the bad kids because there might be quite
a few in the class.
After researching adaptive leadership, it makes sense to say almost all
teachers are adaptive. If we were not adaptive then our students would not get
as much as they could out of their education. You always want to sprinkle a bit of
what they want to learn into the curriculum to keep them engaged and interested
in the subject.
Administration needs to have an adaptive nature but I dont believe their
leadership would go far if they were only adaptive. Yes, they need to adapt to the
staff at the school and the students attending but if they were adaptive in every
realm then the school would have little structure. It would be hard to walk the line
of adaptive and other leadership styles.
One of the articles I read was about using adaptive leadership in hospitals.
I wish all hospitals did use this, which Im not saying they dont. I think nurses
have to be adaptive to work with patients because not every treatment will work
the same.
