Why do people hate politics?

It doesn't help that politicians inevitably attack each other so much...the


bit we always hear most about is Prime Minister's Question Time which
happens every Wednesday lunchtime when Parliament is in session. The
idea is that MPs get half an hour to quiz the Prime Minister and hold him to
account - Question Time for Ministers is a long-established principle of
British government, but it basically always turns into half an hour of
"yah-boo-sucks ner ner ner ner ner" and it gets a high profile precisely
because the Commons is full and it gets a lot of public show.
That's half an hour a week - most of the rest of the time it's totally
different, the chamber is largely empty because most MPs are out there
working hard for their constituents or answering the post, and the debates
on details of legislation take place in a much more civilised fashion.

Three Levels of Government


Municipal local government
In a town or city, the government leader is the mayor and other elected members are
councilors and make up the governing body called a council
A municipal government create bylaws and collects property tax

Provincial
Is in charge of issues and areas of regulation that affect the people in that major
geographic region (ex. health care, child welfare, municipal government, labour,
property and civil rights, highways and education)
Creates laws and collects taxes (income tax, sales tax, etc.)

Federal national government


Is in charge of issues and areas of regulation that affect the whole nation (ex.
citizenship, foreign policy, currency and banking, national defence and postal service)
Creates laws and collects taxes (tariffs, income tax, sales tax, etc.)
There is some sharing of responsibilities between the federal and provincial
governments, especially with health care, agriculture, justice
