Subject: Coating life of warranty for 30 years external steel

Sir,
With regard to the above subject in order to provide a 30 year warranty for
the coating system we must have the following coating System:
Total thickness of the coating system: 240 Microns (minimum average)
Thickness of the Hot Dip Galvanizing: Minimum Average 90 - 100 microns
Thickness of the epoxy coating system to be applied on Galvanized Steel:
140 - 150 Microns
Note: With regards to coating system, in order to give a warranty for
30 years, we must give a minimum overall coating of 240 microns.
This includes 100 microns of HDG followed by 140 microns of Zinc
primer on top of it. Data sheet attached. It is not possible to achieve
140 microns DFT using VOC of less than 240 gms / liter. Such low
V.O.C can only be obtained in water soluble epoxy paints, where we
can get a maximum coating thickness of 30-40 microns.
With the above system we can give 30 years warranty subject to following
conditions:
Exclusions: The warranty shall not be applicable under any one or more of
the following conditions:

If the coated (galvanized + painted) steel is exposed to temperature in

excess of 100C at any time during service

If the coated steel is exposed to highly corrosive environment

exceeding C5; or comes in direct contact with highly corrosive
substance which will accelerate the rate of corrosion.

If the coated steel comes in contact with incompatible surface that

might result in electrochemical corrosion.

If there is any mechanical damage to the coating due to improper

handling during transportation or erection at site

If some mechanical working such as cutting or welding at site is carried

out at site after the items are galvanized and coated as per the coating
system.

This Warranty shall not apply to physical damage or deterioration

arising from causes beyond the control of the galvanizer / coating
applicator such as but not limited to fire, explosion, radiation, collision,
or other accident, severe micro-climates (such as moisture ponding), or
deterioration of the steel caused by electrochemical action arising
from the presence of metals which are cathodic to the galvanized steel,
act of God, wars (whether declared or not), vandalism, riot, civil
commotion or other malicious damage, industrial action and the like
