negative views on refugees. From the introduction of the documentary, viewers
establish Raye as someone who rejects the integration of refugees into her own
local community. She comments using low register speech serves you
bastards right showing her intolerance towards refugees. In her journey she
encounters the Masudis, an African refugee family. Maisara Masudi, the lady of
the family shares her tragic memories. The audience and Ray learn
something new. Her initial response, shocked and skeptism is seen through a
close up. A full shot of Rays downturn facial expression as she is sadden by the
death of Maisaras baby. Viewers can establish that Ray is deeply affected by

the raid inMalaysia, Ray is confronted with refugees trying to start a new life
and that being taken away from them. Viewers are able to establish that ray

An unexpected and sudden discovery forces the individual to see new

perceptions. Upon arriving at their new multicultural neighbourhood, the couple
describe themselves as sojourners in a foreign land. They feel nervous,
wary, and describe their neighbours behaviour as shocking. The description
shows that the couple is scared of their new neighbours. When the wife was
bold enough to run a hand through the childs stubble, it allowed her to
discover the nature of their new neighbours. The description, the polish
widower slid through the fence uninvited and rebuilt it for them presents the
neighbours willingness to help. The couple initial response includes shock and
amazement. The final transformation, challenging and changing the couple
preconception is seen in the description slowly found themselves smiling back
at the neighbours showing the acceptance of their neighbours. Unexpected
and sudden discovery forces the individual to see new perceptions.

new perceptions of ourselves and others. Adam Hartup, like Ray has
s=newgative views in refugees. Adam gives statistics 99.99% of them dont
have paperwork, positioning refugees to have a bad reputations. In his
journey, he meets Israeli refugee, Wasmi and learns that he is afraid of the
water yet he still travelled by boat in search for a new place to live with his
family. Adams encounter with Wasmis story shocks and surprises him.
Through mid shots he is seen having trouble understanding why someone
would risk their life when they know they are afraid of it. In Malaysia, Adam
goes to work with the Chin men and finds out that they are volunteer workers.
This encounter affected him deeply and is seen in a full shot of him hammering
the soil really aggressively. Adam comments that there is no OHNS,
comparing and contrasting life back in Australia and life of the Chin men.
Adams transformation take place when he was asked what he would if he was
in a situation like the refugees and he replied confidently I would do the
journey. Adam understands the hardships and struggles the refugee had to
face before entering a safe haven. Through unexpected and sudden discovery,
