opinions. So as you can see, she
became pregnant at an early age, and
it is one of the current issue in our
country and its called Teenage
Pregnancy
What do you think are the reasons why
teenagers became pregnant at an early
age nowadays?

Because some of teenagers today

lacks knowledge about having the
proper relationship with his/her partner,
and maybe most teenagers hardly
listen to their parents anymore

on your assignment to read the story
Footnote to Youth by: Jose Garcia
Villa.
But Before moving to the story, let us
first have a brief discussion about who
the author is/who is Jose Garcia Villa.

Jose Garcia Villa was a poet, a literary

critic and a short story writer. He was
also a painter. He was known because
of his stylr in writing poetry which has
the use of commas after each words.
Too much for that lets move on, on one
of his known literary piece Footnote to
Youth.

It is the basic story of marrying at a

very young age and questioning the
wisdom of making life choices at our
young age which we must lived with.

On your own understanding what do

you mean, what do you think Footnote
to youth is?

Thank you! The story Footnote to

youth is an eye opener to us who were
classified as youth. Nowadays, we cant
deny the fact that there are so many
teenagers that were getting pregnant
accidentally or unintentionally. We all
know that one of the major causes why
youth now had been engaged to that
immorality was our curiosity isnt it?
And that is premarital sex. But in the
story, what is the reason why Dodong
marry Teang?

Okay, bring out you Homeworks. Were

going to have discussion on that. Who
wants to share his/her answer? Did you

that shows the plot of the story?

What did dodong do? And what does

that show? May you justify your
answer?

Because of his intense love and

affection

For me, is when a short story colorless

worm march blindly to dodongs foot
and crawled damnily over it

Dodong got tickled and jerked his foot

flinging the worm into the air. He was
not bothered. For me it only means that
dodong did not think about his future.
He follow what he feels and not
conscious about the consequences he
might face.

His father was sad and afraid on what

maybe the result of what he is
planning. It is maybe because his father
already experienced it
Okay on the first part of the story,
what can you say about his fathers
reaction when he asks permission to
marry teang?
It made him feel guilty because he
already realized that he was not yet
ready for paternity. It was too early

when Teang was giving birth?

We all know that Dodong had some
regrets about teang having birth to
their first child. Dodong came out to
have breathe some air. He still cannot
believe that this all is happening.
What happen to the baby that made
Dodong come to Teang?

The Baby Cried

Dodong was delighted when he saw

his baby he finally accepted the fact the
Dodong is now a father.

felt when he came to his wife and their
firstborn baby?
His name is Blas

What was the name of their baby?

She became so thin and shapeless

So years passed Blas was not the only

child. Many more children came.
Dodong even blames himself for it. But
the children came and came. But what
happen to Teang? Can you describe
her?

Did she regret having married?

Yes, she even remembered his past

suitor and thought what if she married
him instead.

One night as he lay beside his wife, he

rose and went out of the house. He
stood in the moonlight, tired and
querulous. He wanted to ask questions
and somebody to answer him. He
wanted to be wise about many things.
One of them was why life did not fulfill
all of Youths dreams. Why it must be
so. Why one was forsakenafter love

It means someone who ask or who

want to ask many questions, or wants
to whine.

You encountered the world

what do you think us the meaning of
the word querulous.

No, if I would be Dodong, I would

blame myself, not love. I would blame
myself because I cant control my
temptations and I dont think about
what will happen in the future about
what I will do.

the last sentence, Dodong stated a
question saying, why one was forsaken
for love, now if you were Dodong, and
would you say the same thing? Would
you blame love about all the things that
happened?
Dodong would not fint the answer.
Maybe the question was not to be
answered. It must be so to make youth,

That was an excellent answer. But did

Dodong came up to an answer? Lets

youth. Youth must be dreamfully sweet.

Dreamfully sweet. Dodong returned to
the house humiliated by himself. He
had wanted to know a little wisdom but
was denied it.

It should be like a dream, wherein you

can do whatever you want, being free

So Dodong cant find the answer, he

said that youth should be dreamfully
sweet. What do you mean by
dreamfully sweet?

One night, while Dodong was sleeping,

he hears footsteps. He then woke up to
see who it is. It was Blas, he watched
Blas undress and sleep quietly, Blas
was nervous and yet silent. Dodong
asked why he would not sleep. Then
Blas called his Itay Softly, saying he will
marry Tona (his girlfriend). Dodong
cant say a thing
What do you think Dodong felt?

I Love Tona and I want her
Dodong rose from his mat and told Blas
to follow him. Thay descended to the

He did not want Blass to marry yet. Blas
was very young. The life that would
follow marriage wold be hard

So in the end, Dodong let Blas marry

Tona although he really did not want
Blas to get marry yet. But in his
thoughts, Youth should prevail, and
Youth should be
Dreamfully Sweet
Now what do you think is the moral
lesson of the story?

Blas Voice stilled with resentment. I

will marry Tona.
Dodong kept silent, hurt.
You have objections itay? Blas asked
cridly.
Son n-none (But truly, God I dont
want Blass to marry yet not yet. I
dont want Blass to marry yet)
But he was helpless. He could not do
anything. Youth must triumph now.
Love must triumph now
Afterwards it will be life.
As long ago Youth and Love did triumph
for Dodong and the Life Dodong
looked wistfully at his young son in the
moonlight. He felt extremely sad and
sorry for him.

I think the moral lesson of the story is

to always think first about what you will
do and what will its consequences be.
And also, always listen to your parents
advice
