Unit Description
This unit covers a curriculum area of Technology and Design, incorporating curriculum studies,
pedagogical approaches, and some content study. In addition to raising students
understanding and skills in their approaches to teaching technology and design, it also provides
students with additional opportunity for the development of their own ICT skills and the
consideration and demonstration of the application of ICT within learning environments focused
on Technology and Design. Topics include: probing what technologies; approaches to design;
technology within cultural contexts, including Indigenous; learning about Technology and
Design; & planning and managing Design and Technology teaching and learning.
Learning Outcomes
On successful completion of this unit the student should be able to:
1.

Identify what is technology and its position in human development and culture

2.

Demonstrate knowledge and skills in designing, making and evaluating a technological


artefact

3.

Develop and collect teaching resources for teaching technology, including resources
about Indigenous Technology use

4.

Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of strategies for identifying, integrating


and utilising Indigenous technology knowledge
5. Select appropriate approaches to teaching about technology and design
6. Analyse different technologies to determine how they work so you can explain this to
children.
7. Use ICT in teaching and learning
