Travelling to Siung Beach Indonesia

Justin Daloise
The first thing I will need to do to go to Indonesia will be to ensure that
I have a valid Canadian passport. To do this will take a few steps but the first
one would be to fill out the application form that can be found at this link
provided below. http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/passport/forms/pdf/PPTC153.pdf
When I put the complete application form in, I will need to ensure that I
also have several other documents with me as well. These will include

Proof of Canadian citizenship

A document to prove your identity
Two identical passport photos (You will require to also submit the
name and complete address of the photographer as well as the
date they were taken, on the backside of one of the
photographs)
Any valid Canadian travel document that is issued in your name

I may also be required to submit extra documents if any of the

following apply to me

I
I
I
I

have changed my name

am replacing a passport
want to omit my place of birth
wish to request a change in sex designation on my passport

To get a new passport I will need to find a guarantor to sign my

application, any extra documents required for my application will be
submitted with my application. As well as one guarantor I will need two
references that have known me for at least two years prior to my application,
I cannot use family members as my guarantor OR reference.
When my application is completed and I have all the necessary
documents in order and ready to be submitted I will mail it to the following
address
Government of Canada
Passport program
Gatineau, Quebec K1A 0G3
Canada
OR I will find the nearest passport office or receiving agent and I will submit my
application in person. I will need to pay my fees upon submission of my application. More

information on applying for passports can be found in the link provided below
http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/passport/apply/new/apply-how.asp

Now that I have my passport I need to do some research into Indonesia and what I will
need to do and ensure before I make the trip.

There are no mandatory vaccinations when travelling to Indonesia, however certain

areas are highly recommended you have a shot for yellow fever. As well as other usual travelling
vaccinations.
Currently most of the country is considered safe but you are advised not to go out late at
night in the big cities as foreigners do get mugged frequently. Recently there have been terrorist
attacks in the capital Jakarta. I will be a fair distance away from any big cities and will be
potentially living on a beach for the dry season, however during the monsoon season I will
probably move back into the cities to be safe. More information on travel advisories here
http://travel.gc.ca/destinations/indonesia

Now that I have learned about the dangers and safety requirements of being in
Indonesia I need to ensure I 1. Have enough money to get there 2. Have enough money to live
there 3. Get a visa to work there and/or get a guiding business
The Indonesian currency is the Indonesian Rupiah (IDR) Currently the exchange rate
between the Canadian Dollar (CAD) is 1 (CAD) : 9661 (IDR)

1. To make it to Indonesia I will need two flights, one there and one
returning several months later. The cheapest flight from Kelowna to
Yogykarta would cost me CAD $1,217 Where as a return flight from
Yogykarta to Kelowna would cost me CAD $1,535. So in total flights will
cost me near about $3,000 (That is covering potential inflation and
changes in flight cost today compared to when I am actually executing
this plan) After landing in Yogykarta I would be bussing or somehow
moving my way to the Prambanan Temple 18 km east of Yogykarta in
Central Java Indonesia. Bus from Prambanan market to Piyungan then
transfer to another bus to Tepus and then transfer one more time to
Purwodadi. It costs around IDR 5,000 each. Proceed with ojek from
Purwodadi to Siung Beach IDR 10,000 15,000

2. If I were living in a big city According to

http://www.bankerinthesun.com/2014/07/cost-living-indonesia/ I could
be living in Indonesia quite happily and comfortably for a meager $930
CAD a month. I have seen this number pushed down to under $400
CAD but these numbers will obviously fluctuate and since I am not
planning on living in a city for most of my time in Indonesia these
numbers are just to show. Since I am planning on living on Siung beach
I would be able to get free lodging from a man named Mbah Wasto who
owns a large building and generously donates his quarters to people
wishing to stay. He also makes meals for people that cost about IDR
8,000 (Under $1 CAD) so I could theoretically live on the beach for
~IDR 24,000 = approx. $3 CDN. I would eventually be wanting to
actually be building a small hut in the area and beach bum. In total the
entire trip (If staying there for 6 months) would cost me approximately
$3,540 (This price does not include the material costs if I build a hut). I
would want to have double that saved in case of emergency, I would
not go without at least $5,000 CAD. I will also need to learn how to
speak Indonesian before I go.
3. Getting a work visa and staying permit is a lot more complicated than I
had originally figured it would be.
The entry requirements for a (Non-working 6 month) visa are as follows

Passport must be valid for a minimum of six months before date

of entry into Indonesia
Onward or return tickets are compulsory
Visitors must enter through one of twenty compulsory airports in
Indonesia (this list does include Yogykarta which is the planned
destination for my trip)
The required documents upon entry

Passport
Completed visa application form
One coloured passport size photograph
Evidence that I have sufficient funds for my planned stay (Bank
statement dated less than a month with a minimum balance of
1,000 euros or travelers cheque)
Evidence of obligation in the applicants country of permanent
residences (I.e a letter from employer, certifying that I intend to
return after the visit to Indonesia)
Written approval from the Immigration Office in Indonesia should
the duration of visit exceed 60 days

A Limited Stay Period Visa will cost 50.00 Euros?

The information that I could find on the visas were found on the
