The Post-modernist Architecture
The Forum, 30% OBJECTIVES The Forum intends to encourage an interactive discourse among the students in their critical evaluation and assessment of a selected Post-modern building / design of any architect local/abroad. It is to recognize the physical characteristics as well as social, political and economic history influencing the architectural development of the time and place of the Post-modernist architecture; and It is to study and evaluate the styles and theories of the Post-modernist architecture, linking to human needs, physical environment and technological application. EVALUATION Visual, 5%; Verbal, 10%; and Contents 15%, at 30% Grading of Coursework. Assessors: Dr Lim Poh Im, En Abd Muluk Bin Abd Manan, and Moderator: Jeremy Tew. PROCEDURE Among each group, students are to divide themselves into 2 oppositions. After a 5-minute or less Preliminary Presentation, both sides shall all in another 5-minute or less make deliberation for their respective selected Post Modern building/design whether a Modern or a Post Modern one. And followed by a 5minute or less Q&A Session. Each group shall submit to be approved - on first come first served basis starting from the day Release of Forum of Week 4, Lecture 8 - their respective selected building for Forum so as to avoid overlapping of the same selected building. Forum done with 12-group (6-student per group; grouping to be decided by students.) in a 3-hour slot (4-presentation per 15-minute segment), from 9:00 am till 12:00 noon, and all in different topics of Post-modernist architecture. 2-page Preliminary Presentation in Power Point format (due on Week 7, Lecture
13); followed by another 5-minute or less Forum. And rounded up by a 5-minute or less Q&A Session. OUTCOMES
It is to differentiate the architectural expressions or styles with an appreciation of
their purpose and meaning of the Post Modern Architecture; and It is to appraise and interpret the physical characteristics as well as political and economic history of Post Modernism.
