Experiment # 13

Implementation of H-bridge circuit

Objective:
DC-to-AC converter
Instrument and Equipment:

BJT or Mosfet or IGBT (4)

150 ohm 5W resistor
2 x DC power Supply
TL494
Oscilloscope
Digital Multimeters

Theory:
H-bridge circuit contains four switching element, with the load at the center. In general all
four switching elements can be turned on and off independently. The basic operating mode of
an H-bridge is fairly simple: if Q2 and Q3 are turned on, the left lead of the Load will be
connected to ground, while the right lead is connected to the power supply and the current will
flow from right lead of the load to the left lead of the load and if Q1 and Q4 are turned on, the
Right lead of the Load will be connected to ground, while the Left lead is connected to the power
supply and the current will flow from Left lead of the load to the Right lead of the load. The
average voltage seen by the Load will be determined by the ratio between the on and off time
of the PWM signal.

OBSERVATION :

Draw the waveform across the load.

Measure the average value of the output voltage.
Vary the switching frequency and observe the change in the waveform and the
average value of the output signal .
