Program Title
Partners in Performance: Setting Performance Goals
Goals and Objectives
Goal
At the end of this course, organizational leaders will be able to effectively write
business unit/department goals, differentiate stretch goals and clearly state the key
actions, using the SMART format that align with the organizations goals and
initiatives.
Objective Given the 2015 organizational objectives and business unit goals, the leader will write
one department goal, using the SMART format that accurately reflects its contribution
to attaining the organizational objective when the activity ends and stops for
discussion and feedback.
Objective Using the previously written departmental goal, the leader will identify and write two
to four Key action steps using X to Y by When formula that will define the steps to
attaining the departmental goal when the activity ends and stops for discussion and
feedback.
Objective Using the previously written departmental goal, the leader will define and write an
appropriate stretch goal accurately differentiating it as a stretch goal when the
activity ends and stops for discussion and feedback.

performance goals.
Objective Given the list of pre-defined core competencies (proficiencies), the leader will
determine a professional developmental need when the activity ends and stops for
discussion and feedback.
Objective Using the selected developmental need, the leader will determine its impact to
meeting or exceeding the previously written individual performance goal when the
activity ends and stops for discussion and feedback.
Objective Using the selected development need, the leader will write a developmental goal
using the SMART format that will accurately reflect its impact to meeting or exceeding
the pre-defined individual performance goal when the activity ends and stops for
discussion and feedback.
Learning Objectives
The above stated learning objectives are designed to encourage critical thinking. After being
provided organizational and business unit goals, Learners will be required to analyze the

information and apply their experiences and knowledge from the workplace to synthesize the
information learned, apply the knowledge and skills in practice.
Instructional Strategies
Scaffolding: By Providing opportunities for content to build on past experiences and knowledge,
and on new content
Problem Solving: by focus on critical thinking and practical strategies
Active Learning: Require active learner participation through discussion and feedback (peer to
peer and facilitator to learner) with equal focus on both independent and collaborative learning
through.
Hands on Learning: Provide opportunities for application of new knowledge and skills
Instructional Technologies
Learning Management System: Class registration, Electronic Class Evaluations and participant
tracking.
Media & Applications: PowerPoint, E-Performance Management System
Equipment: Laptop/PC (intranet connectivity and in good working order), LCD Player
