Open Day

Bring your curiosity,

optimism and passion
and discover a course
thats right for you.
Making the transition to university is an
exciting time! It is a great time to explore
different careers and what courses will
getyou there.
To get into a university course, youll need to have studied
certain subjects in years 11 and 12. Youll probably be
askingyourself questions like:

Monash is a
five star university

Student demand
Student retention
Student/staff ratios
Staff qualifications
Cultural diversity
Research intensivity

Will I make the right decision?

What if I change my mind?

What do I need to do now?

What can wait until another time

when things are clearer?

While this can seem daunting, it doesnt have to be. It is

important to remember you dont need to choose your exact
course now but if you have an idea about the area you
wantto study, you can look up courses offered in that area
and find out the prerequisite subjects.
The main aim is to not exclude yourself from a course
becauseyou dont have the right year 12 subjects.
So make sure you get your ducks in a row so in two years
time your options are wide open.

prerequisites, you will not be considered for
that course no matter what your ATAR.
Youmay also need to achieve a minimum
score in a prerequisite subject.

the Monash website closer to enrolment to

All students who attend university are

charged fees. However, government loans
and subsidies are in place to relieve the
costsfor Australian citizens. These students
enrol in Commonwealth supported places
(CSP) and range from $6,152$10,266 per
year in 2015.

All applicants for courses at Monash are

required to successfully complete an English
subject (any) at year 12. Other prerequisites are
listed under each course entry in this guide.
Ifthere are no prerequisite subjects listed, then
you do not have to do any specific subjects
(other than English) for that course. However if a
subject is not listed as a prerequisite, it doesnt
mean that it wont be helpful to students once
they commence their course.

Each applicants final ranking is based on a range of criteria

their interview score (where applicable), pre-selection activity /
folio, and ATAR or GPA.

Pre-selection activity
The pre-selection activity changes every year.
Architects typically express their designs through drawings,
photography, digital images, and text, but we dont expect you
to have these skills yet. You will be asked to respond to an issue
through text and image and you wont be disadvantaged if you
havent completed Studio art or Visual communication design.

Double degree options

Some of our bachelors courses are also available as double
degrees, allowing you to combine your art, design or architecture
course with a course in another discipline and graduate with two
degrees instead of one. This doesnt mean double the work
ittakes at least two years less to complete than if you studied
the two courses separately because the required units from one
course count as electives in the other.
This will:

broaden your specialist knowledge

diversify your skills

increase career options and make you more competitive in

thejob market.
