Math Before break we started working on fractions.

We
reviewed the meaning of a fraction. We are continuing in Topic
10 by learning how to add and subtract fractions. There will be
a test on Tuesday or Wednesday of next week.
Reading We will read Westlandia, which is a fictional story
about a boy who is a bit of a loner and decides to create his
own land or society in his backyard. He ends up making
friends through his imagination and creativity. We will practice
making inferences or drawing conclusions while reading.
GrammarWe will study prepositions and prepositional
phrases next week.
Writing Students have selected a state for their state report. A packet explaining the report should have come home.
The bulk of this work should be able to be done at school during the work time given. However, editing and note taking can
be done at home.
Spelling Same as last week...should nail it with an extra
week to study! www.spellingcity.com/triton5
Social Studies We began Chapter 6 this week learning
about the Middle Colonies. We are also starting to study the
state and capitals.
Science Unit 4 is about the environment living and nonliving around us and how it changes.

Note From the Teacher:

Fifth grade is still selling MudLove bracelets. We will continue selling until they are sold
out. They have been selling like crazy, so be sure to buy yours before they are gone! We are excited about all of the fundraisers profits we are earning this year. It means less money you have
to pay to send your child to Camp Amigo!!! In February 5th grade will be selling carnations.
This money also supports Camp Amigo. Flyers were sent home yesterday.

Science Fair packets went home. It is a great opportunity to learn and also increase your science grade by a whole letter grade. Judging will be on February 5th.
I hope everyone had a wonderful break!!
