Novel Project
Grade 10 English ENG2P
Project Overview
Your Task: You must use your independent reading novel. It must be cleared by me. If it is not appropriate
for the task, I will offer you a list of novels from which to choose.
Using your novel, you will complete some assignments, create a media display to introduce and promote
your novel, and participate in a class book festival where you will share a book talk about your novel in
front of your classmates.

activities worth 40 marks. Choose the combination of activities that most appeal to you. You may choose
to complete two activities worth 10 marks and one activity worth 20 marks, or one activity worth 30 marks

Movie Proposal

Write two page proposal to a film production company to persuade film producers to turn your novel into a
film. In addition to the movie proposal, you will compile a list of three to five songs to include on the
soundtrack, and design the poster that will be displayed at movie theatres to promote your movie.
Character Analysis

Write a two page analysis of one of the main characters from your novel. Your analysis will include
discussion of their attributes and personality traits, the conflicts they experience and the lessons they learn,
and how they develop as characters, all supported though actual quotations from the novel.
Alternate Ending

Write a two page alternate ending for your novel. This new ending should be written in the same style as
your novel, should take on the same point of view, and include dialogue between the characters.
Cover Page Collage

Create a collage of mixed images and/or words that creatively represents your novel.
Letter to Character

Write a one page letter from yourself to the character of your choice.
Character Interview

Pretend you are interviewing a character from your novel for a professional publication (magazine or
newspaper). Write ten questions that youd like to ask and the characters answers.

You will create a three dimensional display all about your novel. The purpose of this display is to introduce
your novel to your classmates and promote the novel for their reading pleasure. Make them want to read it
too! The 3D display may take on many forms: bristol board display, shoe box mini-museum, posters,

Part C: Book Talk

A book talk is a three to five minute oral presentation about your novel. The purpose of a book talk is to
inform your audience about your novel, share some of your experiences while reading the novel, and
promote your novel to your classmates. Make your presentation interesting, entertaining and engaging for
your listeners. Avoid merely summarizing what happens in the novel or listing the characters names.
Instead, focus on what makes this novel worth reading, what lessons are taught in the novel, why this novel
appeals to a teenage audience and any other personal connections you share with the novel. You are
encouraged to include some of the following techniques to make your presentation effective: cue cards,
props, audience discussion and questioning, sound/music, instructional aids (board note, overhead,
handout), etc.
