POL Preparation Packet

Your POL will be a presentation of your understanding about 3 projects you
have completed this year in each class, a personal reflection about your
overall experience and learning as a student this year so far, a chance to
demonstrate your presentation skills, and your ability to link class work to
your personal life/the real world.
You will use your Digital Portfolio, as well as work samples you have created,
as the method for communicating information to a live audience. The panel
audience you will present to will include Mr. Ivan, Ms. Lauren, Ms. Wendy
(when available), your parents, and 2 students from the Bell Peppers &
Rainbow Dashers.
For each task assigned to you, prepare however you feel is best so that you
can freely discuss and thoroughly communicate what is required of you for
that task. Winging it is not an option!!! Your POL is a detailed examination
of what you have learned personally and academically. Be prepared to share
DETAILS and to have PROBING QUESTIONS asked of you while presenting.
Steps to follow so that you will be prepared:
1. Fill in the graphic organizers/answer questions for each task assigned
in great detail.
2. Be mindful as you respond to each question (Your POL is 15 minutes
long!)
3. You might decide to make note cards to help you prepare (or just write
out your thoughts in detail on the provided sheet in Task #4).
4. Practice! Practice! Practice! (You will not use notecards during
your POL)
5. Use the rubric provided to help guide you as you practice. You should
present information during your POL in the order given on the rubric.
6. Use the POL and DP checklist so that you can be sure that you and
your DP are POL ready!
During your presentation:
1. You will not read from your DP, but may refer to it. Your DP must be
working and have a complete reflection of the project you are
representing.
2. You will share your thoughts and ideas (from within)
3. You will also do the following:
a. Make eye contact
b. Speak clearly and at an appropriate volume
c. Speak at an appropriate pace (not too fast)
d. Stand tall and confident
e. Respond to questions honestly

f. Exhibit professionalism

TASK 3 Work Samples

________________________________________

Name

You must show 2 work samples for each project that you present during your POL.
Your work samples must ADD DEPTH to your presentation and help the
audience better understand your experience and/or learning.
NOTE: Just holding up a work sample that you created will not suffice. You must tie
the work into your presentation. Some ways you can do this would be to use it to
demonstrate a strength or challenge, to describe the steps taken to fulfill the
requirements of the project, or to show how your hard work (or challenges) affected
your overall performance.
(If you have photographs of your work samples on your DP, you can use these along with the
actual product, or as a replacement if the actual product is not available).

What will your work samples be and how will they tie into your
presentation?

PRESENTATION SKILLS
Practice your presentation skills by using the following techniques:
Sit at your desk with a laptop open to your DP, all of your completed
tasks, and your POL rubric that outlines best presentation skills.
Review your presentation order (that you wrote down).
Flip through the pages on your DP and visualize yourself in front of an
audience talking about your projects and showing/explaining your work
samples.
Now review your presentation from start to finish by reading through
your POL tasks and practicing what you will talk about as you go to
different pages on your DP and follow your presentation order.
Practice this again without having your completed tasks or notecards in
front of you.
Practice with a partner by taking turns going over your entire
presentation (without the help of notes). Give each other feedback.
Now practice again with your POL Panel group (group of 4). Each
member can present and then take turns providing feedback to your
peers.
Are you ready? No? KEEP PRACTICING!

Remember
During your presentation:
4. You will not read from your DP
5. You will share your thoughts and ideas (from within)
6. You will also do the following:
a. Make eye contact
b. Speak clearly and at an appropriate volume
c. Speak at an appropriate pace (not too fast)
