Celebration

Snow is Here!!
Please help remind your
kiddos that the snow stays
on the ground. They are
more than welcome to
play on it, but they
are not supposed to
pick it up and throw it. Also, if your student wants to
play in the snow at recess,
they need to have on snow
boots and snow pants.

Reading

Writing

Readers know that sometimes the information the author wants them to
learn is not in the text, but rather in
the diagrams, charts, tables, pictures

We will share our published body systems books this week to help us review
writing different text features. We will
also start researching famous people
to write biographies about. Writers
know that informational writing teaches them about something. It has an introduction, facts and details and a conclusion. Writers begin informational
writing by brainstorming about a topic
they want to learn more about. They
think about questions that they want
to have answered about their topic.

and captions etc. on the page. Readers know that they can make inferences based on clues from the text
features included in nonfiction text.
Readers know that they infer information when they use the text features and their schema to understand
a text better.

Word Work
Regular and Irregular Plural Nouns
Readers and writers know that when a noun stands
for more than one of something it is plural. There
are several rules to help us remember how to make
nouns plural.

Plurals of most nouns are formed by adding and S to the end of the word.
The plurals of nouns ending in sh, ch,x,s
and z are made by adding es to the end
of the word.
When a word ends in f, fe, lf, you change
the f to a v and add es to the end of the
word.
Some words have to be changed completely to form the plural. They are
called irregular plural nouns.

Math
To start the year, we will be working in Engage NY again. Module
4 teaches addition and subtraction with regrouping. The most
important thing is that you student can explain why they regroup. It isnt enough for him/
her to tell you to carry a one,
they have to know why they are
doing that and what it means.
