Centers/Reading Group Lesson Plan

Bailey Liberty
Centers Time
When the children are not at their individualized reading group they are expected to be
doing one of the 7 following options. By the end of the school week they are expected
to complete each option unless they have extra reading groups.

1. Read for meaning: The students are expected to choose a book at their own reading
level and read to themselves. When they are finished they must fill out the attached
comprehension piece.
2. Get Fluent.: The students are expected to chose a book at their own reading level and
to take turns reading with a partner.
3. Handwriting: The students are expected to do one unit from their handwriting
notebook.
4. Word Work: The students fill out the word work activity attached which deals with their
spelling words. This week they are doing an activity where they write the word 3 time,
draw a picture, then use the word in a sentence.
5. Listen up: The students can chose from several grade level texts to listen to using
headphones.
6. Lets write: The students are given a new prompt each week to write about in their
notebooks. They are expected to do their best but are not given a length requirement to
keep it fair. They students are asked this week to do some information writing

7. Words to know: The students fill out the vocabulary activities attached which deal
with their high-frequency words for the week.
Differentiated Center Extension
Above grade level group 1: This group is reading a mystery chapter book outside of their
regular group time. They meet with our classroom helpers to discuss the weekly
comprehension question. They are expected to read one chapter a week as well as
doing there centers checklist during independent time.
Above grade level group 2: This group is given a level L small national geographic book
each week. They have an attached comprehension worksheet, which is always
centered around a certain skill attached to each of their checklists. Each week they
must read the book and do the extension activity as well as their checklist during
independent time.
On Level: This group meets with their small group everyday. They are required to
complete the centers checklist outside of their small group time.
Below Grade Level: This group has many members which meet with an extra small group.
These children are not required to finish their checklist. They are asked to complete
handwriting and listen up first (because these are activities they can do independently).
Then, the classroom helpers sit with these students one-on-one many days when they are
not in small group to help get their centers checklist completed.
