Why is there a need for this lesson?

Rationale

Emotional intelligence is very important. By exploring different emotions in a

safe environment children are able to begin the self reflection process to fully
understand their own feelings and the feelings of others. By creating a book,
we add a personal connection and a useful resource to our classroom.
Parents can also get a copy of the book if they wish, and can continue the
lesson and interest at home.
Keep in mind appropriate length of an activity for preschool-aged children is 20 mins at most, no more than 45
mins for children K-2 grade)

Timeframe

Reading the book will take ~5-7 minutes

Discussion will take ~10 minutes
Depending on attention span, teachers can take photos of the children in a one
on one session while another activity is in place or we can take it as a class if
students are interested in what they are all saying. As a class, it could take ~2030 minutes

activity
