By the end of the lesson, students should be able to:

(P) Students will perform at least 4 successful passes while moving and defend against
passes in a zone and/or man to man defense during game play. (National: S1.H1.L2,
MCHCF 2.17)
(C) Students will be able to identify the difference between man to man and various
zone defenses (2-3 & 1-3-1) and the explain the benefits with accuracy when asked
by the teacher at the end of class. (National: S2.H1.L2; MCHCF 2.26)
(A) Students will be able to explain what strategies they used to defend against their
opponents passing offense and whether they used man to man or zone and why when
asked by the teacher at the end of class. (National: S2.H2.L2; MCHCF 2.26)

Teacher Performance Objectives During the lesson the teacher will:
Be enthusiastic in coaching, teaching and refereeing during activities by bringing good
energy as well as good pedagogical content knowledge of the skills and strategies.
Special Considerations What are the safety concerns? What is unique about the
students in this class?
Students need to always be aware of their surroundings and positioning on the court to
avoid running into each other too hard.
Students need to be aware of who has the ball and be ready at any time to catch a
pass. Also the student passing the ball should make sure their teammate is looking
when they go to pass them the ball.

moving and defense, review agenda board

ORGANIZATION

Safety: No picks during activity 2, make sure


the receiver is looking when you are passing
to them.

Warm Up: Dynamic Stretching
Slapper stretch 5 on each side
Small arm circles 10 seconds
Hover Lunges 5 on each side
Sumo side to side 10 seconds
Hip Rotations 10 seconds
High Knee Jumps 10 seconds
Jumping Jacks 10 seconds

Transition: Hand out pinnes, and count off in


3s to make groups for activity 1, line up in
order by number.

Activity 1: 3 man weave drill to practice


passing, ball movement, and floor spacing.
Three players lineup at half court, the ball
starts with the person in the middle and they
pass to either person then they go behind
that person and loop around. The person who
received the ball the passes the ball to the
third member of the team and then goes
behind them. This process is repeated until
the last person catches the ball by the basket

Activity 2: 5 on 5 modified game.


The Offensive goal of this game will be to
complete five passes in a row, once that has
been achieved the offense switches to
defense.
Defense will rotate between a 2-3 zone
defense (2 players on the elbows and 3 down
low with 2 on the blocks and 1 in the lane), a
1-3-1 zone defense (1 player at the top of the
arc, 3 players in the middle with one on the
free throw line, the other 2 on the wings, and
the 5th person playing down low under the
basket), and a man to man defense.
