These past weeks have been amazing.

Camelot Intermediate School is one of the most unique

schools I have ever been in. Their mission to strengthening foundations and igniting a love of learning
as students pursue a lifelong quest for success, and it shows. It shows through their community, the
district school building, the classroom and their learners.
This school is located in a rural area of town. It holds 3rd graders for the time being, 4th graders
and 5th graders. In the classroom and periods that I observed and interacted in had about 20 learners.
These classes had fewer learners in them for the reasons of some went to the resource room for help, an
advance classroom to challenge them more, or to another classroom for extracurricular activities. As well
the learners mainly came from urban or rural areas in town and only some were from farms from the
knowledge of the learners that spoke about this. Additionally, the learners in these classes were
dominantly white with a few African American, Native American, and Hispanic American. In only one of
the classes, there is just one learner with an IEP and towards the end I found out one of the students was
going to be in a 504 for medical reasons. He found out he is allergic to a few things and was in need of an
epi pen.
Miss Miles room set up has two windows on the West side with her Smart Board in between. On
the North side there is a bookshelf with multiple books for her learners. Beside this is another bookshelf
with buckets of calculators, whiteboards, dry erase markers, a Kleenex box, different block and rulers. On
the wall is a white board with 2 different fraction magnets. One set has different fractions for a whole
pie/circle. The other set has different fractions for a whole 1 or a line of them. Beside this there is a
particular board with grammar and language art definitions. For example, alliteration, verb, verb tenses,
preposition, comma, etc. Then right next to this she has two big boards with names on them. They are for
a program the children are working on that has them play games to master mathematics. The parts are
addition and subtraction, and the other board is for multiplication and division. For the addition and
subtraction board all have mastered it. However for the multiplication and division board only about 10
have mastered them. Then on the East wall she has the cabinets filled with papers, books, posters, extra

supplies, a rack for when learners hand-in their assignments, more white boards, two desktop computers
for research, AR points and for one of the children when writing. As well there is a faucet with soup and a
hands-free paper dispenser. As well she has her desk on this side facing the learners, the Smart Board and
the windows. Lastly on the south wall there is another huge white board that writes what each class is
doing for the day, what is due in that class and any other important information that needs to be said.
Additionally, there are two more desktop commuters on this wall but, I do not believe they work. I have
never seen any learner go and use them. In the middle of the room; there is where the learners are, and
their desks. It seems like every 2-3 weeks the desks are arranged differently. She has moved them in
differently ways as well I know sometimes the learners help in this process and she gives them a chance
to stay in this formation if they can act appropriately. For the most part the learners do respect this and I
have only seen it once where she had to move a few learners. But, I think with how the school is set up
each learner know everyone in their grade quite well. This is very nice before they go to Middle School.
Lastly, there are a few desk chairs, some beanbag chairs and a round table for when learners want to take
a break and read, relax, do some homework or just talk to their friends during their homeroom time.
In Miss Miles Language Arts classroom she only had one learner that she really needed to modify
sometimes. She has him write his essays on one of the desktops and helps him out a little by giving him
some more one-on-one time. In her other classes she has they either go to an advanced class or to the
resource room. In math they are the average but from what I observed they are quite smart and really
wanting to learn the content. All of her learners are English learners.
After being here for the 35 hours, doing sub-lessons, my own lessons, interacting with the
learners I have found something I wouldnt have expected. An even bigger love and enjoyment to teach
with learners.
