Grade Level: 7th
Subject/Unit: Friends & Family in The Lightning Thief
Overview

Students will make a yearbook page for their character using cut-outs
from old magazines.

Objectives

After this lesson students will have utilized pictures to depict their
characters personality and role in the novel

Materials

Printer Paper
Old Magazines
Tape/Glue (preference of teacher)
Scissors
Markers/Colored Pencils

Standards

7.SL.4.1:
Present claims and findings, emphasizing salient points in a focused,
coherent manner with pertinent descriptions, facts, details, and
examples; use appropriate eye contact, adequate volume, and clear
pronunciation.
7.SL.4.2:
Create engaging presentations that include multimedia components and
visual displays to clarify claims and findings and emphasize salient
points.
7.ML.2.2:
Analyze the ways that the media use words and images to attract the
publics attention.

Extensions

1)
Tell students that they will be making a yearbook page
for their character. They can use whatever they want out of the
magazines and use all the color they want. Whole class

Their yearbook page has to include:
a.Name of character
b.
What they are (god, human, demigod,
creature)
c.Other than that you can do whatever you want
3)
Tell Students that they will be presenting these in an
informal setting tomorrow in class. They will just talk about some of
the pictures you chose and why.
Some students with IEPs may need help- talk to them to see.
