Dr. Roberta Bondar is the greatest Canadian
to ever live. This presentation compares the
lives of Dr. Roberta Bondar and Sir
Mackenzie Bowell. As well this presentation
will prove that Dr. Roberta Bondar has
made a greater impact on Canadian Society
than Sir Mackenzie Bowell.

Special honors': Awarded an Ontario Graduate Fellowship in 1971,

an NRC Post doctorate Fellowship in 1974,

She was named honorary member of Zonta International in 1984


and of the Canadian Federation of University Women in 1985.

She won the Vanier Award for her selection as an outstanding young
Canadian by the Jaycees of Canada in 1985.

She was co-recipient of the F.W. (Casey) Baldwin Award in 1985 for
the best paper in the Canadian Aeronautics and Space Journal and
was made honourary life member of Girl Guides of Canada in 1986.
She was awarded a D.Sc. (Honoris causa) in 1989 by Mount Allison
University, Sackville, New Brunswick.

In 1990, she received a D.Hum.L. (Honoris causa) from Mount St.


Vincent University, Halifax, Nova Scotia,

a Senior Fellowship from Ryerson Polytechnical Institute, Toronto,


Ontario and a D.Sc. (Honoris causa) from the University of Guelph,
Guelph, Ontario.

an Ontario Ministry of Health Fellowship in 1981,

a Medical Research Council Fellowship in 1981 and a Career Scientist

Mackenzie Bowell was first elected to the House of
Commons in 1867.

He was Minister of Customs from 1878 to 1892, Minister

of Militia in 1892, and Minister of Trade and Commerce


from 1892 to 1894.
Mackenzie Bowell was appointed to the Senate in 1892.

He served as Leader of the Government in the Senate


from 1893 to 1896.

In 1894, on the death of Sir John Thompson, Mackenzie


Bowell became Leader of the Conservative Party and
Prime Minister of Canada.

Mackenzie Bowell was forced to resign by his own


cabinet in 1896. Sir Charles Tupper replaced Bowell as
Prime Minister.
Mackenzie Bowell served as Opposition Leader in the
Senate from 1896 to 1906.
