Experiment # 4

Full wave rectifier

Objective:
What is the full wave rectifier? And how is it formed by using
diode. What happens with full wave rectifier by adding
resistance and capacitor.

Equipment required:
1.
2.
3.
4.

Jumper wires
Connecting wires
Analogue trainer ETW3600
Dual trace oscilloscope

Procedure:
1. Put two connecting wires in line frequency on 15 VAC.
2. Join the first connecting wires with the first jumper wire at
it one end. And connect other end with the VAC1.
3. Join the second connecting wire with the second jumper
wire and connect this jumper wires with VAC2.
4. Connect second jumper wire with the ground terminal of
VAC1 and VAC2 with ground of interphase panel board.
5. Now turn on the oscilloscope adjust it trigger level
intensity and position.
6. Select time/cm at 5 and voltage/cm at 5.
7. Select the channel source at dual.
8. Now record the value of +DC voltage by putting
multimeter leads across the output of the circuit. The
value of voltage is 6.05 +DC volts
9. Connect X channel probes with the ground and OSC1
across R1 and channel Y probes with the OSC2.
10.
Then full wave form is coming on oscilloscope by
selecting cannel Y and by selecting channel X ac wave is
coming on oscilloscope.
11.
Install another jumper wire and connect across J1
then 100micrifarad capacitor is connected with circuit. By
installing capacitor, the wave is converting into pure DC.
12.
When voltage is measures from multimeter then it
increased.

13.
Now install jumper wires at J2 the and connect the
probes at OSC2.
14.
Then now both capacitor is install in circuit then
again the wave is converting into pure dc.
15.
But when voltage is measured at this point then it is
decreased.
16.
Now measure voltage between V1 and V2 it shows
17.9 volts.
17.
Now turn off the trainer and remove jumper wires.

Conclusion:
Through this experiment we seek about the full wave rectifier
in this wave both positive half cycles are coming and no
negative half cycle is coming. By adding the capacitor and
resistor the AC wave is fully converted into pure DC.
