GENERAL UNIT GOAL
IT IS IMPORTANT FOR STUDENTS TO BE ABLE TO TELL STORIES THROUGH
THEIR ARTWORK. BY DOING THIS IT SHOWS THAT THEY ARE ABLE TO
CONVEY THEIR IDEAS IN A WAY THAT OTHERS CAN UNDERSTAND.
GENERAL LESSON OBJECTIVES
WHEN FINISHED WITH THIS LESSON, STUDENTS WILL BE ABLE TO IDENTIFY
AND DISCUSS CHARACTERISTICS OF STORYTELLING. THEY WILL SHOW
UNDERSTANDING BY CREATING THEIR OWN PERSONAL STORY SHOWN
THROUGH A COMIC STRIP THAT THEY CREATED.

START WITH A TOUR OF THE CHRYSTLER SPECIFICALLY SHOWING TWENG
KWONG CHI PHOTO MONTAGES. DURING TOUR STUDENTS WILL DISCUSS
THE ELEMENTS OF STORY TELLING.

4. WHAT ROLE DOES COLOR PLAY IN THIS STORY?

AT THE END OF CLASS STUDENTS WORK WILL BE DISPLAYED AROUND THE
ROOM. THIS IS THE TIME WHERE STUDENTS WILL BE GIVEN THE
OPPORTUNITY TO SHARE THEIR WORK.
TRANSITION
IN THIS LESSON STUDENTS EXPLORED THE USE OF ACTION IN
STORYTELLING. THEY ALSO EXPLORED HOW TO MIX MEDIUMS IN ORDER TO
CREATE THEIR OWN ORIGINAL WORK OF ART. TO DEMONSTATE THEIR
UNDERTANDING, STUDENTS WROTE THEIR OWN DEFINITION OF ACTION
AND HAD TO INCORPORATE THAT INTO THEIR WORK IN ORDER TO TELL A
STORY.

INTO A COMIC STORY (15PTS)
2. ABILITY TO FOLLOW INSTRUCTIONS AND USING TECHNIQUES
DEMONSTRATED IN CLASS (15PTS)
3. COMPLETION OF COMIC INCLUDING BACKGROUND/LANDSCAPE
AND AT LEAST 2 CHARACTERS (20PTS)
4. PARTICIPATION
MODIFICATIONS
THIS LESSON CAN BE MODIFIED TO ANY AGE GROUP. FOR YOUNGER
STUDENTS THE TEACHER CAN TAKE PICTURES OF THE STUDENTS INTEAD OF
THEM TAKING PICTURES OF EACH OTHER. INSTEAD OF USING BRISTOL
BOARD TO BUILD THEIR PICTURE ON THEY CAN USE WOOD OR SMALL
CANVAS. STUDENTS MAY ALSO CREATE AS MANY OR AS LITTLE SCENES AS
THEY WANT TO INCREASE OR DECEASE DIFFICULTY.
