Self-Authorship

You may wonder who is Omar? Im that guy who views everything like
the glass is half full. I am a believer and an optimist. I am a considerate
fellow who puts others lives ahead of my own. I live by a few words,
Respect and tolerance. This has never changed; Ive had these
attributes since I was raised. I contribute a lot of who I am today to the
way I was brought up. Looking at myself now I have discovered that my
values and personality havent changed one bit.

Growing up my parents have nurtured the idea of internal happiness &

being knowledgeable. I know realize how vital they were in and still
remain to be in my life. No matter what it was or what I was doing, they
always wanted the best for me. They always reinforced everything with
what I wanted to do. They would let me do whatever I enjoyed, and hey it
worked out great. Personally I believe it was mutually beneficial because I
flourished in everything I was interested in. Through the years Ive
developed and in fact strengthened these values even more. I may not
always be the smartest in the room, and I understand that, but I know my
general knowledge far surpasses anyone else. My so called street smarts

and social intelligence is one attribute I have that most people tend to
overlook. I believe I inherited this trait from both sides of my family. I like
to try new things, search breaking news, figure out complex problems,
and figured out that my curiosity is what developed my core values.

Also every event that Ive been involved in thus far has influenced me
to a degree, some more than others. For example, some major influences
in my life are my parents and family. Without their guidance I would be a
living mess. Without their daily support I would be beyond lost. Everything
theyve done for me has been a blessing and cannot be more fortunate.
Second, the places I grew have determined a lot about me. Egypt,
Chicago, Charlotte, Los Angeles, and the United Arab Emirates all have a
special place in my heart. All the memories and experiences made across
the globe has shaped who I am today. But there is something about Egypt
that is so special towards me. The amount of love and affection I have
towards Egypt cannot be expressed in words. Im a proud nationalistic
Egyptian that wants to see prosperity not only to Egypt but its neighbors
too. I love the people, the attractions, food, culture. I can continually
praise all these aspects but then it would be endless. Also something that
has a significant impact on my life is my education. I believe this is often
undermined, going to school in a safe environment, its more than a
privilege. I love going to school, learning, socializing! I adore the
community aspect and the school spirit that brings everyone together.

Last but not least, sports. Ever since I was able to walk Ive been playing
sports. Sports have given me joy, sorrow and everything in between. It
has picked me up in crucial times and given me support. It is something I
can always enjoy playing or watching on any given day.

Peoples message and feelings are also very dear to me so I value

them. My peers say Im a bundle of happiness, intelligence, athleticism,
sports-oriented, most of all kindness. Everyone in the area knows my
extreme love for sports. In fact, everyone in my neighborhood knew me
because I would constantly wear sports jerseys. Something even more
impressive is that classmates referred me as ESPN for a long time due to
my extensive knowledge of sports. Not only that but classmates would
label me as the class clown, they pictured me as the holy comedic
figure. Talking about comedic figures I would compare myself to either a
Jon Stewart or David Letterman because I dabble in politics like they do. It
wasnt until recently where I started informing myself on all the current
events our humanity is facing today. I find it genuinely entertaining
researching and learning about politics and global affairs. I am subscribed
to many blogs, people, shows involving politics. Now I am seriously
considering minoring in political science. I am finally able to hold a
political conversation at the dinner table best of all!

I have a really diverse and strong character, some of them include,

fairness, equity, and justice. These three words represent me well
because I feel like I represent them so well. This is a very accurate, ever
since I was a toddler Ive been told to by family members to treat
everyone the way you want to be treated. This quote has stuck to me and
I think always will. I used to get picked on because I was always the
shrimp of the group. I absolutely hated it, it would dread on me forever.
This is when I remembered what my family taught me and put it into good
use. I hated feeling humiliated, probably the worst feeling ever. I cant
imagine doing/saying things to other people that could offend them. Its
just not who I am, I always wanted to be the bigger man and lead by
example. I have a really soft heart and care for everyone. My goal is to
treat everyone as family, I believe tolerance and respect is what makes
this world a great place. My core values on liberty and justice are a big
reason for who I am.

This is what I believe. I am a believer. I believe in god. I believe that

everyone on this earth deserves nothing but the best. I believe in peace
and freedom to all. I believe that everyone should be entitled to world
class education. I believe in people that inspire and make this world
beautiful. I believe in love. I believe in the goodness of people, not the
bad. I believe that money cant buy happiness. I believe that money is the
root of all evil. I believe that happiness is the ultimate goal in life. Looking

back at all that I wrote Ive found several new things about myself. Some
highlights are my liberal standpoint on many fields. Not only have that but
I found a lot about myself. I found who I truly am and what most of my
core values are. I have learned more about what others think of me and
how that relates to me. As a result of this essay I have realized how
privileged and fortunate I am. How I take so many things for granted. This
was really eye opening and definitely surprised me. Looking at myself
through writing really expressed my true self which I have never seen
before.

Writers Responsibility
Learning writing and going about writing was a tad different than the
typical student. I was learning both English and Arabic growing up but my
parents decided for me to learn mainly English. I would have to say that
still working on Arabic may have hindered my growth in English. I always
had an alternative way of viewing everything English related. I would
always be hesitant when I was asked to pick up a book and read. I always
tended to be a bit of a slacker. It was very average learning process with
no real surprises. I just wonder if my readers think that my essay flows.
My intentions are always to produce a fluid piece of writing.

For Revisions

I didnt make any significant changes to my essay in terms of content

but I tried to make it more fluid and smooth. Before I had abrupt stops
and changes but now I cleared that up. I also bolstered my vocabulary
throughout the writing because I do think the little things matter. The peer
feedback is insightful for the fact it gives you an extra pair of eyes on your
paper but I dont think it is the best way to revise and edit. The feedback
is very limited and not too in depth.
