Dear Dr. George:

It is my pleasure to address this letter to you. In doing so, I hope to put the final touches on the
matter of who I am as an inspired writer. I hope to display myself as a college level writer
through four essays. I have produced these essays within the last four months, while taking an
English 1010D: Introduction to Writing class. These essays portray a sense of personalization
and importance; in which, each topic carries significate relevance to me. I have found strengths,
weakness, and an overall freedom, while creating each works. A description of each creative
works is displayed below; however, a full copy is provided within this electronic portfolio. And
finally, I hope you are able to find pleasure in reading my essays, as well as, gain further insight
into the inspired writer that I have become.
My first essay was a literacy narrative; in which, I was assigned to compose my first reading or
writing experience. I chose to write about my first memories in writing. I titled this work A
Cursive Heaven. I am a firm believer in signs, and I felt that this assignment served just as
that. In the past several years, I have become so busy that I have stopped free writing in my

spare time. Being assigned this literacy narrative essay, presented familiar feelings of enjoyment,
freedom, and peace.
A Cursive Heaven tells the story of my childhood, and what becomes the beginnings of my
writing journey. It displays my first interaction with writing. Most children are taught standard
letters and forms. In my essay, I introduce cursive as my first style of writing that I learned. This
essay also reflects, both my struggles of losing my mother at the age of five years old;
furthermore, how I was able to overcome such odds, at such a young age, through my cursive
creative writings. The closing of my essay, reveals how I recently received a journal that
belonged to my mother in heaven; the journal is completely written in cursive handwriting. This
leaves a lasting impression with my audience.
One of my strengths in this essay, is the use of imagery and description. I put a lot of attention in
describing the events, in which I could recall them. I felt that my weakness in this essay, was
simply my lack of confidence in my rusty and uncertain writing skills. Overall, I gained a deeper
connection that I would have never found within myself, had I not explored this sign from A
Cursive Heaven.
My second essay titled I Am Woman, Hear Me Roar! is an analysis essay. I was assigned to
choose three advertisements and describe their intent. I was also asked to integrate information
and proper cite my resources. The advertisements that I chose were female oriented; meaning,
the advertising companies chose to use females to advertise their product. Each advertisement
presents a strong sense of female power. Each advertisement used a different and unique
approach to represent the strength, in which women possess. My strength in this essay was being
able to decipher a deeper meaning that the advertising company was trying to convey. My
weakness was trying to tie these advertisements together, while connecting them all within

themselves. Also, recognizing that the power behind I Am Woman, Hear Me Roar, pertains to
myself, too.
My third essay The Disruption in Communication was an informative report. The subject of
this report, included the current impact that smartphones have in our personal relationships. The
Disruption in Communications was a very intricate essay. There were many facts that I felt
needed to be addressed about the use of smartphones; facts, that supported the everyday and
continuous use of phones with regards to people. Once I was able to provide sufficient support
that these phones were indeed creating a disruption in communication, I then explained the role
that communication plays in peoples lives. My focus in this essay was to not only provide
information, but to also subject my audience to the real-life-need of communication. This
essay also reflects my overall belief of just how important love is. Overall, I felt that this essay
reflected my strengths is creativity, in which I gathered my own personal data to prove that there
is indeed, A Disruption in Communication.
And finally, my fourth essay Protect and Serve is an argumentative essay. The topic I chose to
write about and argue for, was the topic and issue of police body cameras. This essay reflects the
recent concerns of police brutality among We the People of the United States of America.
However, I also recognize that these officers are also among We the People, and need
protection too. A criminal is a criminal that does criminal things; A police officers is a police
officers, who has sworn to uphold the law, and protect and serve we the people.
As an argumentative essay, I introduce opposing facts. I felt this was my strength and weakness
combined. I found it difficult to find current and worthy information that opposed my argument.
These opposing facts included: the lack of willing informants, the invasion of privacy, and the
unwanted expense of body cameras. In conclusion to my essay, my stance was to provide

justifiable reasoning as to why police officers need to be equipped with body cameras. Body
cameras are the answer to creating peace and trust among we the people and those who Protect
and Serve.
In parting, I hope you can appreciate each of these creative works. I also feel privileged in
thanking you, for taking the time to read them. Not only, do I hope that these works can serve
their purpose within each of their topics, but also within the lives of those who may read them.

Thank you once again Dr. George.
