Obesity is not just with Junk Food
Obesity the name itself brings about the consequences of having Junk Food all the
time. According to a doctor, Obesity is defined and calculated according to Body Mass Index.
The Body Mass Index is the ratio of the height with the weight of the body. Obesity is actually
not considered in the Fat. It can be said that Obesity is defined as the person starting to get more
weight than the height ratio of the body. Many people directly relate Obesity to the Junk food or
Fast food that is available in the form of Burgers, Fries etc. But actually, obesity is not always
because of the type of the food consumption (Olbo 17). Obesity is sometimes on the
consequence of having a routine or a lifestyle and the type of food that is always consumed by
the person.
Obesity has many negative implications on the body. Starting from the weight, obesity is
responsible in increasing the cholesterol level in the body and thereby creating additional
problems such as thickening of blood and ultimately making blood clot in the arteries and
veins in the body. Obesity also, affects the working of brain as the sufficient amount of required
proteins and minerals are missing from the body (Christine 27). If obesity is not controlled, the
problems related to obesity increases gradually and thereby increasing the risk of heart attacks in
the body. Obesity can also affect the respiration system, nervous system and digestive system of

the body. Many doctors had included in their findings that obesity affects the bones in the body
as the bones starts melting due to the lack of calcium in the body. Nearly about 30% of American
Teenagers are affected with Obesity (Chang 35). This is an alarming rate and the Government
should analyze the problem of obesity and the people should have to take action against the
problem of obesity that is prevailing in the society (Christine 25).
In order to find the root cause of the problem, the research should be done from the root
because that triggers the problem of Obesity. The life is becoming busy in modern days. In order
to catch up with time, people tend to work hard and find difficult to have a choice over their
foods. Time is Money. This term had changed the whole lifestyle of the people and people
consider every second of their life with money. This had left people to lose the choice over the
food and attracted them over the fast foods.
Generally it can be seen that Fast Food are processed and given to the customers within
no time. A person on the driveway come, after ordering the food comes to collect the food within
no time. This had left the people to go over the fast food in order to get rid of their hungriness.
Most of the people know that the fast foods are not good for their lifestyles but due to the time
constraint they are left with no option of having it (Olbo 37).
The other reason of having fast food is the money spent on the food. Generally, people
have a motto Money saved is Money Earned. This had led to find best available food with the
cheapest rate and that can be served within no time. This had led people to go over to the fast
food stations. Also, it can be compared that McDonalds is serving a McChicken Burger in a
dollar whereas the cost of buying Apples is up to three dollars a pound. This had made people to

AlQatbi3

get attracted towards the fast food. Also, the time can also be saved in buying fast food rather
than going for shopping of vegetable and cooking them for lunch (Chang 43).
Due to the busy lifestyles, people are less interested in their health. In order to save
money, they are actually harming their body eating every day the processed foods and making
processed. People had forgotten about the term Health is Wealth. They are losing their actual
wealth in getting the virtual wealth (Chang 17).
The main Argument about the Obesity is the Fitness and Exercise. Exercise keeps the
body fit and fine. A person exercising daily helps to keep up with his limits and can burn the
additional calories from the body. This will make him to be fit and fine and the blood in his body
has the required amount of oxygen in the body. But due to the busy life and tight schedule,
exercising daily has been removed from the schedule of the body (Christine 77).
In addition to the exercise, the modern daily life of the people is also making the people
to go obese. In the modern technology, games had become a virtual exercise. Unlike the olden
days when people used to play outdoor games like soccer, golf. Games today have taken a new
level. People play games on television which is not the part of the exercise. Also, technology had
made people a step towards the Obesity. Daily using of cars and buses had made people to forget
about cycles and thereby affecting them in their life. This had made a person not even to walk for
a mile and thereby affecting them in their life. Everything in this world is easily available and
this had made persons not to strive for it. For instance, Why to cycle to Seven Eleven when you
can use a Car, this thinking affected the body and thereby made the person to go Obese.
Not only Junk Food or Fast food is the reason for obesity. If the metabolism of the body
is set in such a way that the amount of calories taken should be burned, then the person will no

AlQatbi4

longer be obese. Yet the fast food contains many calories, the person should work hard in
exercising such that he is able to burn all the calories in order to stay fit and fine.
In addition to exercising, the person should think about relating junk food with the
organic food. Even though the price and time spent on organic food is more than easily available
fast food, the person should think it on a long term basis. The person should think about health
hazards of having processed food on a long term benefits and should make an effective decision.
Saving a couple of dollars for now by eating fast food will actually result in spending hundreds
of dollars over the medicines. If this is understood by the person, then obesity can actually be
controlled by the person.
Since Obesity is not just the Junk Food, people should think that the only reason for the
Obesity is actually their consumption of food. Therefore, people should realize that this can be
removed when they follow the proper diet system and actually take care of their health. This will
make them to think twice before having more calories food.
The Government should take an initiative in a step towards eradicating the Obesity from
the society. This can be done by regulating the prices of processed foods and organic foods.
People should be made aware of the present situation and should work in lowering down the
prices of fresh foods. The subsidy should be awarded on fresh food thereby attracting the people
to choose fresh foods over fast foods. Like on every cross-street, there is a fast food corner, the
government should encourage fresh food owners such as farm owners to compete with the fast
food restaurants by providing the subsidy for the fresh foods owners. This is consequently
attracting people to choose fresh food over fast foods.

AlQatbi5

In conclusion, it can be said that Obesity is not the only reason from Fast foods. This is
the decision and the selection of food that are taken by the people. People have to change their
mindset and should be encouraged to have fresh food over fast foods. Therefore, obesity is the
problem of the peoples decision over the food and their lifestyle. In order to eradicate the
obesity and its problems, several actions from the public and from the governments has to be
taken. This will be beneficial for both the people and government as government wont have to
spend thousands of dollars in getting a cure for obesity later on.
