Annotated Bibliography on Budget Cuts within the United States Army

Budget Cuts. Huffington Post. Retrieved From:
http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2013/11/24/military-training_n_4333561.html
This article is about how the training within the Military as a whole is being affected by
budget cuts. The Article shows how the last budget cut caused troops to be dual-trained to
preform multiple jobs, and how mission and training will be lessened to accommodate for
the budget cuts. Although this article is old, it still shows how the last budget cut affected
the military, which can be used to simulate how the next budget cut will affect the Army.
This touched on the topic of how battle or mission ready units will be if they dont
receive the proper training. I can use this to support how the readiness of the Army will
be shrunk from budget cuts.
CNN., (January 2011) CNN: US military budget cuts. YouTube. Retrieved from:

This is a YouTube video of an aired news report on the budget cuts of the United States
Military. This report talks about how the Marines and Army was cut in troops and the
training they received. This is something I can use to again cover the readiness of the

Army being reduced by another budget cut. The issue I want to stress is how ready the
Army will be to fight and win combat for the United States. The current budget cut is
very similar to the last budget cut that this video is referring to, so the impacts will be
simulated as similar.

This Article focuses heavily on the current budget cut within the Army, and how many
troops will be cut. It states the 40,000 troops will be cut through this budget cut, and lists
some issues this amount may present. This article is very supporting in my community
problem since this point is my underlying issue. With the reduction of troops, the Armys
total readiness in all bases (including Fort Bliss). This issue is the core of why I chose
this issue to be my focus of the semester.

This article is about the 2012 fiscal year budget cut for the United States Army Corps. Of
Engineers Civil Works program. This explains the budget cut enacted on the program and
how that budget ranged in comparison of previous cuts, and speculates on how future
cuts will be. I chose to use this article because the comparison of past cuts and this
current cut is able to be seen using this article as a reference. I can use this source to show

how the budget cuts have increased in the past five years. This can support my
community issue report by providing evidence of increased cuts occurring annually,
which can affect the Armys readiness negatively.

Budget Cuts. Huffington Post. Retrieved from:
http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2013/07/10/chuck-hagel-defense-cuts_n_3575304.html
This article is about Defense Secretary Chuck Hagel writing a letter to warn Congress
about the possible problems with cutting the Armys budget. Hagel refers to the problem
of lack of readiness that the Army will suffer if soldiers cannot get the battle drills and
equipment if the budget is reduced. This article will benefit me because it supports my
community issue by listing possible consequences of cutting the Armys budget. The lack
of battle drills and equipment that soldiers would receive within the budget cuts could
reduce the effectiveness and readiness of the U.S. Army. These issues are a strong point
behind why I found the budget cuts to be a problem.

This article is about the leaders who made the budget cut of 2015 for the United states
Army. It shows the choices that the leaders weighed, and how the choices got weighed. I
have done my rhetorical analysis on this article because this is an important view to
consider when evaluating this budget cut of 2015 for the United States Army. I chose to
use this because the strongest arguments have a rebuttal for the counterarguments. The

other side of my community issue is why the budget cut is enacted, so I have chosen to
study this article closely.

This article explains how the budget cuts of the United States Army of 2015 will delay
the army research program Future Vertical Lift (FVL). This program was the future of
military combat vehicles that was to be in beta testing by 2030, and now outlooks says it
will be delay past that. I choice to use this article to emphasize the impact on military
research to improve the equipment and training for the military. This is the secondary
point for my community issue, which is how the budget cut affects the future of the
Army. This is a powerful article that I can pull many citations out of to back up my
points.
