CHC 2D1 Essay Assignment

response to it, and write an argumentative essay defending your thesis. Your essay must
adhere to the following specifications:

5 paragraphs (introduction, 3 body, conclusion)

12 pt. font
Chicago Style Formatting

The Process:
1. Select a topic/inquiry question.
2. Seek an answer to your inquiry question and generate content for your essay by doing
some research:
For this assignment, you must consult at least 3 different resources, including
at least one that you find using the IRHS librarys online databases.
Make sure to document your sources, i.e. record bibliographic information for
any source you get notes from.
3. Develop a thesis. Based on your research, you must answer the inquiry question you
started with. This should take the form of a clear, precise argumentative statement.
4. Develop and organize your content. Make decisions about which information from
your research is most relevant and convincing, how it can be grouped into paragraphs,
and (if necessary) where you could use more information; if you do need more,
further research may be necessary.
5. Complete an outline. See the outline provided.
6. Write a draft.
7. Edit and revise. Have at least one other person (ideally a classmate) read your draft
and make suggestions for improvement. Have your editor use the peer editing sheet
attached to this assignment.
8. Good Copy. Once your good copy is completed, you can start preparations for final
submission:
Upload your essay to turnitin.com (see instructions attached)
Submit a copy to your teacher (hard copy, email, or GoogleDoc)
