Management Plan

3D Art Art Room

Grades: 9-12
Ms. Hammersmith
*Class Motto

I expect every student to come to class prepared and ready to create. Students are
expected to participate in class discussions, creating, and critiquing of others and
their own works consistently. Students will begin to understand the necessity of
time management and need to plan out their work time in a way that works for
them in order to meet deadlines. In addition to in class projects, out of class
assignments will also be assigned. Participation will factor greatly into each project
grade and the students final grade.
Environment is one of the most impacting parts in learning, so in my classroom I
want each and every student to feel safe and comfortable. I want it to be a place for

students to stretch and explore their interests and abilities, while having fun with it.
Students need to feel comfortable in order to create personal, meaningful works.
There will be a wide variety of art hanging on the walls to inspire inquiry questions
and motivation. Depending on the project and the class vote, music may be

permitted to play during studio days. Students will be encouraged everyday say
something nice to at least one other person in the class.
This physical space should be focused on being a sufficient creating station;
materials should be organized and readily available for use prior to each lesson.
Materials need to be tested, in order to eliminate error. The designating painting
and glazing areas will be for that specified use only. Both stations need to be
sponged and wiped down after being used. Students will be able to store their art
projects that are in progress on the project storage shelf. Greenware and
bisqueware will be stored on the corresponding middle shelf. And last but not least,
glazed and finished ceramics will be stored on the following glaze shelf. Students
will be allowed to sit wherever they would like the first two days. Wherever they sit
the third day will be their permanent seat for the quarter. I have the right to revoke
any seating arrangements and privileges if the students misuse their privilege.
For managing paper, assignments, and rubrics, a file folder system will be
implemented to stay organized. A paper copy of the weekly schedule will be handed
out each Friday. There will be one master copy that is available for students to view
on the bulletin board in the front of the room. Any changes will be announced and
updated on the master copy schedule. Students are responsible for their own
assignments, deadlines, and due dates. All sketchbook assignments will be required
to complete in the sketchbook, on time. Late sketchbook assignments will not be
accepted, unless approved ahead of time. Loose sketching pages need to be pasted
or taped into sketchbook in order for them to count as part of the assignment.
All assignment sheets and rubrics will be provided hard copy. Every student will
receive one and they will be responsible for that copy. If a student is absent he or
she will retrieve assignment sheet from corresponding file folder and discuss with
the teacher about the new project. Depending on days missed, extra time will be
allowed for students who have missed more than three days. If less than three days,
students are responsible for coming in to make up work on their own time.
Students will have the opportunity to write questions, puzzles, or concerns on sticky
notes to place on the bulletin board. If there are multiple questions that are the
same, we will tackle the information as a class lesson. The others will be addressed
during extra time/end of class.
A weekly schedule will be handed out every Friday for the following week.
Everything expected will be provided in writing and available to all students. By
providing all expectations in writing, students become accountable for their own
work and due dates. There will be a usual routine for art making days, students will
know when they need to clean up and what they need to clean up. Cleaning groups
are assigned the first week of class. Having a clean and organized environment is
essential in the art room to ensure all projects are safe, finished, and available to
work on.

Routines will be established for each project, changing slightly with different
materials, techniques, and also the given timeframe. The base of the routine will go
off of: art history exploration, ideation and planning, art making processes, art
creating, and also reflection and critiques.

Teaching Philosophy
Chandon Hammersmith

Through teaching I help provide students with a relevant and crucial

understanding of the arts, while also providing students with an opportunity for
creativity exploration and self-expression. I want to enable students to further
develop critical thinking skills and creative thinking skills. In my classroom, it will be
implemented that all artists are problem solvers. I will be there to accelerate
students growth, challenges, and success through art making and artistic problem
solving.

As an art educator, I am constantly learning with each day of experience in

and out of the classroom. Everyday is a chance for me to further expand knowledge,
understanding, and skills of teaching art in the classroom. I expect to continue to
learn from my students as they continue to learn from me. My objective will be to
introduce each individual student with the confidence and enthusiasm to create,
interpret, play, and discuss art.

I would like to be the bridge that connects the students to their own
motivation, creativity, and self-incentive to create and generate works of superlative
art. Art pushes student learning and I work to facilitate learning in an enjoyable
way, incorporating personal and relevant connections with each student. I will set
the example to work well with others while consistently being positively motivated
and innovative. I venture to help individuals explore their unique creativity levels to
reach innovative opportunities they never thought possible. I will assist students in
critical thinking, creative expressing, and learning of the visual arts. Passion,
flexibility, and individual understanding will influence my teaching. I believe the
best way for efficient learning is through hands on experience, establishing personal
connections each step of the way.
