Training name and Title: Meditech Training: Clinical Content & Patient Care
Training Description: This Training is to provide knowledge, skill and
information on how to use the Meditech system within the HCA hospitals. The
training is designed to enhance and develop Registered Nurses workflow;
specifically clinical workflow within a fast paced HCA hospital. The training will
provide each nurse the skills to function when placed in any HCA hospital.
MEDITECH is an integrated information system that enables health care
providers to track a patient's history and/or monitor ongoing treatment of chronic
health problems, regardless of the patient's whereabouts. Providers are afforded
immediate access to patients' medical records, which can be used to devise
treatments.

III.

Target audience analysis: Training will consist of all Parallon current, new hire,
and rehire RN, LPN,CNA. (Nurses)

IV.

Target audience characteristics: Nurses will have 1 year experience in

hospitals, understand medical terminology and have basic computer skills.

V.

Delivery Modality:
a. Length of Training: The training will be given to all new hires as a
16hour course before being placed at a HCA hospital. Re-hires will be
given a 8hour course before being placed at HCA hospitals. Nurses who
would

like to enhance their training with the Meditech system may request for
additional training in either 4hour or 8hour increments.
Trainings are broken into 4 topics 4 hour days. Rehires and Additional

Training name and Title: Meditech Training: Clinical Content & Patient Care
Defined Goals/Objective for each goal A-B-C-D format:

Goal:
Provide knowledge, skill, information and development with Meditech systems
Objective:
As a result of the Meditech training, nurses will be able to navigate , edit and enter
information into the problem management , medication reconciliation/discharge, ordering
and patient data retrieval/population management fields while using the Meditech
system

The Meditech training will provide nurses the ability to identify and explain the 4
tracking clinical workflow features when using the Meditech system

As a result of the Meditech training , nurses will be able to predict which of the 4
tracking clinical workflow features to use while providing patient care

Goal:
Ensure all Parallon Nurses are developed and well versed with Meditech systems to
function in an HCA facility
Objective:
The Meditech training will prepare nurses with the necessary process to trouble shoot the
system while in use

5
Instructional Plan and Presentation

At the end of the Meditech training all nurses will conduct a live demonstration using the
Meditech system to measure the nurses ability to function in an HCA facility.
III.
Objective Learning Style: Project Based Learning
The Clinical Content & Patient Care training will be based on teaching nurses
knowledge and skill on a computer program system within the hospital
(Meditech). The system has many functions, sections and fields, however, the
nurses will only focus on four main functions/fields in the system, which are:
Project Management, Medication Reconciliation/Discharge, Ordering and Patient
Data, Retrieval/ Population Management. The nurse will gain the knowledge and
skill of the system during a16hour time period instructional training. The training
will be broken down into a 4hour 4 day time period covering the needed four
topics. The nurses will respond to complex questions, problems and challenges
throughout the training ending in a result of the ability to navigate and use the
Meditech system.

IV.

II.

Length of Training: Training is mandatory 16hour course broken into

4hour 4day blocks. All new hires must complete training before working at
an HCA hospital. Rehires training is mandatory however they have an
opportunity to complete training in two days with two 8hour trainings to
start work sooner. The 8hour trainings must have five or more nurses
(RN,LPN & CNA) present to have a training course. Trainings are given
twice a month must see Human Resources for Training Schedules.
Additional Training will be given when requested. Nurse will have to
choose one of the 16 hour trainings that are given twice a month.

Implementation Plan:
o Plan Communication
Training will be communicated to all hires as a mandatory training and they
cannot start working without a successful completion. All hires will know they
must successfully pass the Live Scenario Testing knowing all functions before
working. Rehires will be advised that they must retrain no matter of the length of
time gone. Additional training will be posted all over the HCA hospitals and all
nurses will know to contact Parallon Workforce Human Resources for training
schedules and to self-book training.
o Interest and Commitment
All new hire and rehire Nurses will commit to the training on hire date by signing
a training commitment form. Every nurse will be provided literature on
completion of training and work start time. Additional training interest will be
promoted using pamphlets and posters by providing information on industry
improvements to the Meditech training.
o Selected Participants

Training name and Title: Meditech Training: Clinical Content & Patient Care
Evaluation Criteria:
o Evaluation will be conducted prior to training courses. This evaluation
will be based on interviews and surveys from charge nurses and
department heads in the hospital. Assessment Tools (Interviews and
Surveys with all hospitals on new nurses ability using the Meditech as
well as tenure nurses)
o Formative evaluations will be conducted through-out the trainings.
Assessment Tools Group discussions, question and answer segment,
simulation and self-directed learned practices
o Summative evaluation will be given at the end of the training by using a
performance assessment. Each nurse will perform a scenario testing. The
facilitator will provide live scenarios covering all four field topics and the
nurse must show understanding on how, when, where and when to use
each field. Performance scale will grade the nurse ability to navigate, edit
and enter information, identify and predict which of the 4 tracking clinical
workflow features to use based on the issue at hand (Wodkowski &
Ginsberg, 2010).

12
Instructional Plan and Presentation

o Audience evaluation will be conducted at the end of trainings by all

attendees (Nurses). Assessment Tools Survey questionnaire and a written
feedback of expectations was meet and what should be changed.

III.

Evaluation Instruments:
a) Interview Sheets and Surveys for hospitals
b) Role Play scripts
c) Scenario sheets for all four topics
d) Grading scale
e) Built in questions for the question and answer segment
(Wodkowski & Ginsberg, 2010)

IV.

Instructional Future:
Every six months the Meditech training program will be analyzed to see if the
training needs to be enhanced or continue. This will be done by using an overview
of data from all four of the evaluation criteria's. This overview will be used as part
of the considerations when making decisions on whether the training is
successful. During the consideration instructional designers will also analyze what
additional tools and techniques should be implemented to help benefit the future
of the training. If the training overview show areas of major improvement needed
at that time instructional designers will begin a needs analysis to revamp training.
