Course Description and Learning Expectations
This face-to-face course introduces students to themes in The American Republic to 1877. Each
theme has a section of study, that is designed to familiarize student with information and event of
our nations past and present times. Themes include the following: culture and traditions,
continuity and change, geography and history, individual action, groups and institutions,
government and democracy, science and technology, economic factors, global connections, and
civic rights and responsibilities. Throughout the course, the student may be required to develop
documents, use principles and theories of history to formulate projects in Power-Point, and
present presentations to the class regarding knowledge and information gained through their
studies.
In order for students to learn, they must be present in class. The campus provides three minutes
of transition time from one course to the next. Failure to report prior to the bell ringing will
result in an Absence being marked for the student. If the student reports after the tardy bell
rings, the absence will be changed to tardy. If the student does not show up for class and it is
later found that the student was present, the absence will be changed to skipping, which may
result in an Office Discipline Referral to the administration.
