Project Research Paper Natural Selection
Since the day we were born and came to this world, we begin to question ourselves. Who
are we and what is the purpose of our life? Why are we here on this earth? Questions can be
answer in different ways. It depends on who you ask. Some people who are religious might
respond that God is the creator of the universe. Some People who believe in science might say
that earth was created through gas and other things outside of space. Natural Selection cans
explain how life was formed based on science.
What is natural selection? According to the www.dictionary.com, it is defined as the
process by which forms of life have traits that better enable them to adapt to specific
environmental pressures. Natural Selection was found by two scientists, Alfred Russel Wallace
and Charles Darwin. Wallace was the first scientist who started to learn about how species they
are changing generation to generation. Darwin was the second scientist who organized Wallaces
work and put them together, which is known as natural selection.
Why is natural selection very important to us and other species? It shows us that our
species are very different from generation to generation? It takes time to change and the
environment where the species live. It also creates diversity and allows each species to live better
depending on their environment. All the species were coming from the common ancestor.
Information from www.plato.stanford.edu, Natural Selection said, The theory of
evolution by natural selection forms a central part of modern evolutionary theory. There is some
controversy among biologists as to just how important natural selection is compared to other
processes producing evolutionary change, but there is no controversy over the proposition that
natural selection is important (Brandon).
Based on the information from, www.pnas.org Natural Selection in a Contemporary
Human Population Our aims were to demonstrate that natural selection is operating on
contemporary humans, predict future evolutionary change for specific traits with medical
significance and show that for some traits we can make short-term predictions about our future
evolution (Ellison). It is important that it can help us to figure out medicine to for humans.

According to www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov, Are Humans Still Evolving said, The theory of
evolution has since been applied to the understanding of human variation in several ways. The
most infamous uses of evolutionary theory, which were most common until the first half of the
last century, used it to justify social prejudice and racism. However, biological anthropology and
the study of human diversity have been central to deconstructing the myth of races'. Biological
characteristics are common components of how humans socially define races; human
populations display variation in features such as stature, hair and skin color, which corresponds
with environmental conditions (Stock).
It was true that our human race had the same common ancestor in the past. Because of the
environmental change million years ago, humans had to migrate to the different places to live.
Their lifestyles had to change so they could adapt to their new environment. Thats why we have
people who are different skin colors, hair color etc.
One example is bird. Probably there was only one kind of bird, but over million of years
because of the environmental change. Birds started to migrant to different places to live. We can
tell by their beaks. If the areas have enough foods and a nice environment, they are eating more
food and adapt to that environment, so their beaks are bigger than some birds that live in the area
of less food and hash environment. Their body and beak might be smaller. The same with
humans, having to adapt to the environment we live in so we can survive better and can pass
traits or characteristics to the next generation.
After what I researched and what I learned in class, I understood better about natural
selection. It applies to all the species including humans. Its about sex and survival. It helps
create diversity and make sure all the species can live better and pass traits or characteristics to
the next generation. Thats why we see different kinds of birds, humans and other species
because we are sharing from the common ancestors.
