Charter on Trial/ Create Your Own

Charter
Overview
Now that you have a solid foundation of knowledge about the
Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms, we are going to put the it to the test in
this inquiry. We will ultimately be deciding whether or not the Charter of Rights
and Freedoms encompasses all of the qualities that it claims to possess in
protecting our rights and freedoms and determining the value and
importance of a Charter.
You will also eventually CREATE YOUR OWN CHARTER FOR THE WORLD.
Once you are in your groups:
1. Each group will create a Google doc that they are all a part of and that
they share (without emails) to Ms G and I.

Use your GINS INQUIRY NOTES to help fuel your research, go back to the Charter
website, and use your textbook, in order to PLAN and determine the following:
a. What is appropriate for your Charter (would you organize it
differently?)
b. What are some good components that you would want to include in
YOUR Charter for the world? (put in your own words)
c. What elements would you want to eliminate?
d. What areas have room for growth? (would you ADD things or CLARIFY
things?)
Section B
a. Research OTHER foundational documents (ones from your novel)
with the same questions to be considered from Section A
b. Be sure to identify how Canadas Charter is unique from the other
founding document(s) that youve researched.

Section C
Each group will create their OWN Charter that would be applicable to the WORLD.
This will be an ORGANIZED FINAL DRAFT. This is an example of how you can
organize your Charter, feel free to use the Canadian Charter or other countries
documents or constitutions to see how they organize their Rights and Freedoms.
