Objective: SWBAT correctly analyze text by answering questions and using context clues 8 out
of 10 times.
SWBAT describe the relationship with the story and the illustrations.
Student Friendly Objective: I can use reading strategies like using context clue, recalling main
details, story sequences, and analyze/evaluate the story.
Key Vocabulary: Informative text
Materials Needed: Big book, popcorn maker
Prior Knowledge: Students have made a book with their senses.
Gain Attention: State objectives. Who knows what the 5 senses are raise your hand.
Modeling: Today boys and girls we will be reading about our senses. This means the book we
are reading is an informational text. An informational text is a story that teaches us
information about things, in this case its our senses. I will read the text and model
questions out loud.
Guided Practice: I will help children think and use context clues when needed.
Check for Understanding: I will ask the students questions relating to the story.
Assessment: The students will analyze text and use illustrations to describe the story.
Lesson Closure: I will bring in my popcorn maker. The children will tell me the senses they use
to describe it.
Differentiation Instruction: With the students in the higher groups, I will ask them harder
questions with the whole group to have everyone think.
