4. Describe two techniques that John and Sandra could use to help design an
effective plan for this venture. Relate each technique to this particular case.
(A 4 marks)
One technique that John and Sandra could use to be effective is Bench Marking,
they have already looked at the competition in and around the area that they plan
on building in, so they can learn from the other companies mistakes and from
what they have done well. By using Benchmarking they have already decided that
they are going to use higher quality materials and advertise and hold tournaments
to make them stand out from their competition. They could look further into each
of the business' and find out what doesn't sell well and what does so they don't
waste time on things that won't do well.
The Second technique they could use to help design a better plan is using
contingency planning. So they could make 3 plans for their summer, one with a
bad forecast, one with mediocre weather and one plan with really good weather so
they are prepared for whatever type of weather conditions they may have.
5. The business plan that John and Sandra have to develop for this seasonal business
must include a budget. Based on the information in the case, make a list of five
different revenue sources or expenses that would determine the potential profit.
** You do not need to calculate the estimated profit. (A 5 marks)
-putters
-golf balls
-score cards
-materials
-employees
6. Describe a simulation that John and Sandra could use to help improve the
accuracy of their business plan. (A 2 marks)
They could pretend that they are starting their business a year earlier and do some
research on the days it rained in last year's season and make a model of how much
profit they would have made.
Overall communication: Typed answers are easy to read, organized, include
proper use of terminology, and are free of spelling and grammatical errors.
