Define these terms.


Financial Aid is any grant or scholarship, loan, or paid employment
offered to help a student meet his/her college expenses. Such aid is
usually provided by various sources such as federal and state
agencies, colleges, high schools, foundations, and corporations.
A federal grant is an award of financial assistance from a federal
agency to a recipient to carry out a public purpose of support or
stimulation authorized by a law of the United States. Grants are
federal assistance to individuals, benefits or entitlements.
Institutional grants are all grants that do not come from the federal
government. Also called merit awards or merit scholarships, they can
be awarded based on academic achievement. Some are offered only
for those students with financial need.
'Government Grant' A financial award given by the federal, state or
local government to an eligible grantee. Government grants are not
expected to be repaid by the recipient.

An associate degree is an undergraduate academic degree awarded
by community colleges, junior colleges, technical colleges, bachelor's
degreegranting colleges, and universities upon completion of a
course of study usually lasting two years.
Lower division courses are any course taken at a junior college or
community college or courses offered at the freshman and sophomore
level at a four-year college or university regardless of the title or
content of the course.
A bachelor's degree (also baccalaureate, from Modern Latin
baccalaureates) is usually earned for an undergraduate course of
study that normally requires three to five years of study (depending on
institution and field of study).
Upper division courses are courses offered at the junior level or
higher. By definition any course taken at a community college is not
upper division.
A student at a college or university who has not yet earned a
bachelor's or equivalent degree.
A master's degree is an academic degree granted to individuals who
have undergone study demonstrating a mastery or high-order
overview of a specific field of study or area of professional practice.
A graduate student (or grad student) is a student who goes to the
school. Also, in British English, the phrase "postgraduate student" is
more common. Usually, students must have an undergraduate
(bachelor's) degree before beginning graduate school.
