Professional Growth Plan
Goals for the First Year of Teaching:
While I am teaching my first year, I would like to develop a positive rapport with my
students, faculty, and parents. I would like to spend my free time researching different kinds of
lesson plans, attending professional development workshops, and constantly assessing my skills
as a teacher. The first year of teaching will be difficult, but I plan on improving as much as
possible. I am going to sign up to chaperone school events, help run fundraisers, and even see
what kind of tasks I can take on from administration. My goal for this first year of teaching is to
show administrators at the school my dedication. After the first year, Id like to have my name
recognized by teachers all across campus and students to feel eager to come to my classroom.
Educating students and being an active member of the staff is my goal for this first year.
Long Term Goals (Five Year Plan):
After teaching for five years, I still plan on attending professional development
workshops as much as possible. At this point I would like to be an advisor for a club on campus.
I would like to start a literary magazine if there isnt one already established at the school I am
employed at. If there is a literary magazine already established, I would like to speak with the
current advisor and hope to help the students as much as possible. My experience has an editor
for the literary magazine at ASU will help high school students develop their own respectable
publication. I have experience participating in student government as a student in high school,
therefore I have the foundation to lead a group of students as an educator. Each freshmen class
searches for a staff member to be their advisor, and I plan on offering most of my free time to the
student government members. After five years I still plan on looking over every annual
evaluation and looking for refinements I can make.
Organizations:
As I advance my skills as an educator, I would like to take part of an organization
specifically for my content area. National Council of Teachers of English is an organization
devoted to teaching English language arts effectively and in the best way possible. This
organization not only performs research concerning the content area, but also reports on
innovative ways to teach the content. I am going to be busy as a teacher and I may have to divide
my time between organizations, but I am devoted to joining this specific group. National
Education Writers Association is an organization dedicated to ensure the media reports on
educational matters property. Although I will not be a journalist, I can still join this organization
as a supportive community member. I am going to be an active employee in the public school
system so I can help this organization cover a topic in all aspects. Arizona Professional Educators

is an organization that is similar to the AEA because both groups advocate for public schools.
The APE specifically fights for equality and democracy in the state of Arizona. This organization
fights for equal opportunities for education and the best education possible. Arizona Education
Association is an organization specifically in-state that I would like to be a part of. The AEA has
thousands of members that represent public schools and advocates for school systems.
