Name of Lesson Plan: My Healthy Exercise Plan
Content Area: Promoting regular exercise with brainstorming exercises to create a weekly
exercise plan.
Grade Level: 3

NHES Standard 6: Students will demonstrate the ability to use goal-setting skills to enhance
health.
Performance Indicator: Set a personal health goal and track progress toward its achievement.
Objectives:

Students will be able to identify activities for healthy exercise that they can accomplish
on a regular basis.
Students will be able to create a weekly plan for exercising 5 days a week.
Students will be able to track exercise activity, attempt to follow their weekly, and record
comments on their physical activity for the week.

Activity #1: Brainstorm Ideas for 30 Minutes of Physical Activity

Give students a sheet of paper, tell them to write the title: Healthy Activities for 30
Minutes of Exercise.
Have students come up with seven different activities in total.

Activity #2: Create a weekly plan that includes 30 minutes of physical activity on 5
different days of the week.

Give students a sheet of paper.


Have Students construct a table of 2 columns and 7 rows.
Have students label first column as Day of The Week and the second column as
Activity, and label the days of the week one by one in each row under the column for
Day of The Week.
Have students choose 5 of the 7 activities from the brainstorming exercise and allot one
each to 5 different days of the week on the table, so that each of the 5 days chosen has a
different activity listed in the column next to the day.

Activity #3: Attempt to Follow Weekly Plan from Activity #2, Record Physical Activity for

Have students construct a table with 3 columns and 7 rows.
Have students label first column as Day of The Week, the second column as Activity,
and the third column as Comments, then label the days of the week one by one in each
row under the column for Day of The Week.
Tell students to try to follow the plan they created in activity #2, and record their physical
activity each day, and to also include the exact amount of time spent on each activity.
Tell students to also write down comments throughout the week about their physical
activity each day, which should include things how it felt, the level of difficulty, whether
or not they liked it etc.
Have students bring these sheets in the next week, and have a class discussion where
everyone discusses their physical activity and analyzes strengths and weaknesses.

20 minutes for class discussion on everyones physical activity for the week, and to
address strengths and weaknesses as well as likes and dislikes.
