MDD 6: REFLECTION AND SELF EVALUATION

MDD Standard

The teacher candidate identifies the main things learned in this practicum
and ways in which this learning has informed their professional development
needs, reflecting on the meaning, values, and purposes that will orient his or
her professional life.

4.1 Reflect on the main things you have learned about teaching and how
these relate to your understanding of the profession and the values that
guide your work.
I have learned that the context in which students are involved is very
important at the moment of planning the lessons. If you want to teach
content successfully you should take into account students background and
interests. Another important aspect is the fact that a teacher is not only a
person who teaches a subject but also a person who is in charge of teaching
values. Additionally, I learned that the teacher has to demonstrate that is
willing to help the students in order to create a good environment because
that is crucial in the learning process. Keeping this in mind students and
teachers will establish a close rapport which plays an important role when
learning a language.
4.2 Describe one or two areas of professional growth (e.g. instructional
strategies, content knowledge).
The first area was self-control. At the begginig it was difficult to be in front of
the whole class because the students did not respect me. As a consequence,
the level of frustration was terrible. However, after a while I started to apply
different strategies to call students attention and it worked. Another area
was own personal growth. The students taught me that they are people who
also have problems and need attention. Many of them trusted me and told
me their problems. Therefore, I realized that a teacher is a person in whom
the students could count on as well.
