Re: Lian Bunny

I have been the internship supervisor in our universitys journalism

school since 2002 and have read well over 1,500 internship evaluations in
that time. As I reviewed Ms. Bunnys evaluations while preparing to write this
letter, I was reminded again that she has gained a broad range of experience
that will make her a top candidate for potential employers after she
graduates.
Then I remembered she is just a junior. I cannot recall another junior
who has achieved her level of experience and success. When you take this
into consideration along with her internship experiences in the Buffalo area,
you will find her well qualified for your internship program.
Ms. Bunnys most recent internship earned her top marks. Although
she had no experience in radio, she was selected for a news internship at
WBFO last summer. Her supervisor, news director Brian Meyer, wrote, Lian
was an incredibly resourceful, dependable and intelligent contributor in our
newsroom. She eagerly tackled new challenges, proposed story ideas and
routinely met deadlines. Her writing, interviewing and production skills were
exceptionalespecially given the fact that she is just beginning her junior
year in college. Her attitude was always upbeat and she performed
admirably under time pressure. Lian could walk into a newsroom today and
be a valuable player. [ ] I can honestly say I didnt detect any weaknesses.
[ ] She epitomizes professional in every category.
As for her print experience, Ms. Bunny worked in the summer of 2014
for Lizz Schumer, editor in chief of The Sun in Hamburg. Ms. Schumer was
named to Editor & Publishers 2015 25 Under 35 list, which recognizes the
next generation of outstanding newspaper leaders. This is what she had to
say about Ms. Bunny: She was probably the best intern Ive ever had, in any
position, and Id recommend her to anyone in a heartbeat. [ ] She was a
strong asset to my team and I was sorry to lose her.
During summer 2014, Ms. Bunny also interned at WNYB-TV/Faith
Broadcasting in Orchard Park. Her supervisor, Sean Brennan, said, She has
what it takes to make it in the television business. There is that certain it
that some people possess. Lian has it.

As enthusiastic as those reviews are, they dont adequately do justice

to Ms. Bunnys personality. She is friendly, is popular with her peers and
respected by them, and has a good sense of humor. When she makes one of
her frequent stops in my office to discuss stories shes working on for the
independent, student-run weekly newspaper on campus, we speak to each
other as journalists do. I like her as a person and respect her reporting
abilities too much to fall into the typical professor-student dynamic.
After working 22 years as a newspaper reporter or editor, and after
teaching 15 years at a journalism school, I can say that if I were still a
newspaper managing editor, Id hire her in a second and consider myself
lucky to have her. She is the best student journalist I have ever worked with,
and I have worked with hundreds during my career at St. Bonaventure.
Good journaliststhe really good oneshave skills that allow them to
work in any medium. In Ms. Bunnys case, she has succeeded in print, radio
and television.
Sincerely,
