ProposalonFlightMechanics
Overthelastcentury,aviationhastransformedtheskiesthatpeoplehavecometoknow
intoabusyweboftraffic.Ofallthepeoplewhohaveflownonaplane,manyhaveprobably
takenforgrantedthephysics,thought,andtrainingthatgoesintoflyinganaircraft.Thoughitsa
broadsubject,onecouldhavemuchtolearnaboutairplanes.Forstarters,airplaneshavearich
historyandabrightfuture,includingitsshortcomingsandevolution.Throughouttheyears,man
hasdevelopedfourtypesofenginestoliftairplanesoftheground.Plentycouldbetoldabout
howtheenginesthemselvesindirectlyproduceenoughlifttoovercomegravity.Thefinal
subjectthatweplantoincorporateinourprojectishowanaircraftisflown,giventhe
instrumentsandothertechnologiesputintoit.Ourgroupwillplacethisinformationinsideofa
fifteenminutePowerPointpresentation.
TheplanforthepresentationofthisprojectistousetheprogramMicrosoftPowerPoint.
Wewillbeusingmultipleslidesinordertopresentthemassofinformationweacquirefrom
multiplesources.Theprojectwillbestructuredinawaythatshowsthehistorybeginningwith
theprecursorsofflightandthefirstpoweredflight,conductedbytheWrightbrothers,allthe
waytowhatthefutureholdsforaviation.Duringthepresentationwewillincorporatehow
aviationhaschangedandevolvedtotheneedsofhumanityandtheenvironment.Our

presentationwillhavemultiplepicturesanddiagramstoaidtheaudienceintheirunderstanding
ofthesubjectmatterbeingpresented.
Intheprocess,wehopetoincreasepeoplesintellectonthemachine.Thisdepthin
history,alongwithotherinformation,increaseawarenessonthetechnicalpropertiesofaplane.
Inotherwords,wewantouraudiencetounderstandwherethesegreatmachineshavecome
from,howwehavegottenthere,whatwehavelearnedovertheyearsthroughtrialanderrorand
tragedies,andwhytheyareahugestapleinoureconomy,outsideofcommonknowledge.
Toevenlyseparateouttherolesofeachteammember,everyoneonourteamwillbe
givenaspecifictopictoresearchpertainingtoacertaintimeperiod.JamesSoutherwillget
everythingfromthebeginningofflightuptillthe1960s,endingbeforespaceflight.Michael
Stetzlerwilltakethe1960sonintothepresent.DannyCanalewillfocusonthepresentandgive
insightintothefutureofflight.Withtheproposedassignedtasksofeachteammember,our
presentationcanbeevenlyspreadoutandefficient.Asfortheothertwominortopicsplanned,
JamesandMichaelwillcoverenginetypesandincorporatethemintothehistorythatwas
researched,andDannycanresearchhowthecontrolsofaplaneareusedduringflight.Thegroup
asawholewillcoverediting.
Wewillneedtohavemultipleduedatesthroughoutthesemesterastowhencertain
thingswillbecompleted.ByOctober16thahighlydetailedoutlineofallpartsandoftheproject
willbecompletedandcheckedbyeachgroupmember.OurduedateissettobeOctober23rd
andourpresentationisOctober30th.Forthefollowing2weekswewillworkoncondensingand
addingotherminordetailstothepaper.ByNovember18wewillhaveallworkdoneonallpart
oftheprojectandwillbegineditingitourselves.
