Lesson Title/Topic: Haunted house for sale


Standards: 2.12 The student will write letters stories and simple explanations
a. Generate ideas before writing.
c. Expand writing to include descriptive detail.
2.13 The student will edit for correct grammar, capitalization, punctuation and
spelling.

Specific Observable Objective(s): Students will use at least 5 describing words
when writing about their house.
Essential Vocabulary: Advertisement.
Assessment: Students will turn in their writing to me as well as sharing with the
group.
Student Considerations: Some students will have lists of describing words that
will describe and not describe their house. Students will be asked to make a decision
between the two words to tell which one does describe their house.
Instructional Resources, Materials, and Technology: Smart board, picture
of creepy house on the internet, construction paper, crayons, worksheet
for the students to write their haunted house for sale advertisement.
PROCEDURES:
The Beginning: Students will be asked to gather at the carpet. I will pull up
on the smart board the picture of my creepy house. I will then ask them to
help me brainstorm some words that I could use to describe this house. I will
jot those down on my notebook, I will tell them that they are more than
welcome to write the words down that we are using now for their
advertisement. Then I will tell them that we are going to write an
advertisement to the ghouls and ghosts. I will ask them if they know what an
advertisement is. I will explain it with the example of an ad on TV. Then I will
point out that all of the things that were said about the product were positive
things so what we say about the house should have a positive spin on it. I will
then pull up the notebook page on the smart board and ask them to help me
come up with a few sentences using my descriptive words. We will go through
a few sentences and then they will go find a workspace. (15 minutes)

The Middle: The students will be writing their advertisements to try and sell
the house. I will be walking around and assisting students to stay on task and
to come up with sentences for their haunted house reminding students that
they are trying to get me to buy it so it needs to sound positive. If time
permits they will be allowed to draw a picture to go with their ad. (20 minutes)
The End: I will ask the students to gather back at the carpet. I will ask for a
few volunteers to share their advertisements on their house. I will then share
my advertisement on my house.
