Asfarasanimalrightsgo,zoosplayacrucialrole.Itiswelldebatedthatanimalshaveno
rightsinzoos,butweneedtolookatthingsfromanotherpointofview.Ifwelookathow
animalsarebeinghuntedrightnow,wecanseehowzoosaregreatforthem.Animalsarebeing
hunteddownforalotofreasons,includingtheirfur,ivory,somemedicalbenefits(thatarent
proven),andsometimesevenfortheirmeat.Thisisterrible,andzooscanactassafehavens
fortheseanimals.

Animalshavebeensubjectedtocrueltreatmentinthepastwhentheywereinzoos.Thishas
changed,however,becausepeopleactuallyknewaboutitandnoticedit,anditdamagedthe
reputationofzoositselfandthreatenedtheirbusiness.Theyrealizedthisandtheirtreatment
towardsanimalshasbeencontinuouslyimprovingovertime.Infact,animalsarestartedtoget
thetreatmentofkingswhentheyareinzoos,allbecausetheyarethelivelihoodofthebusiness.
Moreover,thefewzoosthatmistreatedanimalshavebeencaught,andarebeingtargetedfor
theseactions.

Whenitcomestoeducation,zoosarealsoplayingaveryimportantrole.Schoolchildrenare
curiousaboutanimalsandseethemeverywhereintheirdailylives,andanopportunitytogoto
thezooandseethemforrealisamazingforthem.Withthisopportunity,theyenjoylearning
aboutanimalsandendangeredspecies.Zooshaveaddedsignstomostplaceswhereanimals
arelocatedinordertoinformpeopleaboutthemtoo,includingtheirnaturalhabitat,howmany
therestillareintheworld,whattheyeat,andsoon.Notonlyschoolchildren,butprettymuch
everyonecangetinformedaboutanimalsatzoos,astheystarttoraiseawarenesstowards
importantissuesregardinganimals.

Finally,zoosarecrucialtoprotectendangeredspecies.Asmentionedbefore,animalsare
beinghunteddownprettymuchforexisting,andzoosarekeepingthemsafeagainsthunters
andothertypesofmaliciouspeople.Zoosarentparadise,obviously,buttheydoactasasafe
havenforthesehuntedanimals.

Capturinganimalsiscruel,period.Animalshavetheirownrights,andtheyhave
theirownlivesinthewild.Capturingthemdestroystheirroutinesandtheirwayoflife.For
exampleelephantstravellongdistancesinthewildinlargegroupsthatistheirwayoflife.When

elephantsareinazoo,theycanttravellongdistances,infact,theamounttheycanmovecan
barelybenamedasworthyoftravel.

Moreover,animalsthatareconfinedtothezoosufferfromnegativepsychologicaleffectsdue
totheconfinement.Itdoesntreallymatterhowgoodthefacilitiesofthezooare,orhowmuch
spacetheanimalhasforitself,itwillstillnotbecomparableinanywaytothefreedomthey
wouldhaveinthewild.

Furthermore,animalsthatareborninzoosandconfinedtotheirboundariestheirwholelife
nevergettoseetheirnaturalhabitat,andnevergettolivelifeliketheyshouldbelivingit.Thisis
somethingthatcanbenoticedbytheirabnormalbehavior,sincetheyrenotwheretheyshould
beitisnotnaturalforthem.Iftheseanimalsevergetreleasedtothewildforanyreason,they
willhaveanextremelydifficulttimeadaptingtotheirnaturalhabitat,becausetheyhad
absolutelynoformerexperienceofit.Theyweretakencareofalltheirlives,andnowhaveto
provideforthemselves,somethingtheyarenotusedto.
4.
Regardingeducationinzoos,althoughtheydoprovidealotofit,mostofusgotothezooas
awaytospendtimeandforrecreationalpurposes.Noonereallygoesvisitthezoowiththe
samementalitypeoplevisitthemuseumwith.Moreover,somevisitorsactuallydontcareabout
thewellbeingofanimals,andmanyofthemactuallyabusethembythrowingthemobjects,
teasingthem,yellingatthem,andsoon.Thiskindofbehaviorhasanextremelynegativeeffect
onanimals,anditcanoftenresultinpsychologicaldamagetoanimals,andsometimesitcan
evenprovetobefatal.Animalscagedinzoosarentabletoexhibittheirnaturalbehavioras
theyshould,andteasingthemwillgreatlydamagetheirselfconfidenceandtheircomfortinthe
zooitself.
